ASTM D2068-20 Standard Test Method for Determining Filter Blocking Tendency Active 发布日期 :  1970-01-01 实施日期 :

5.1 This test method is intended for use in evaluating the cleanliness of middle distillate fuels, and biodiesel and biodiesel blends for specifications and quality control purposes.5.2 The filter media specified in the three procedures are all suitable for the materials in the . Specifications calling up this test method should state the procedure required.5.3 A change in filtration performance after storage or pretreatment can be indicative of changes of fuel condition.5.4 The filterability of fuels varies depending on filter porosity and structure and therefore results from this test method might not correlate with full-scale filtration.5.5 Causes of poor filterability in industrial/refinery filters include fuel degradation products, contaminants (including water) picked up during storage or transfer, effects due to temperature or composition for bio fuels, incompatibility of commingled fuels, or interaction of the fuel with the filter media. Any of these could correlate with orifice or filter system plugging, or both.5.6 The results of the FBT test can range from 1 with a fuel with very good filterability, to over 100 for a fuel with poor filterability. The selection of a single FBT number to define a pass or fail criteria is not possible as this will be dependent on the fuel type and applications.1.1 This test method covers three procedures for the determination of the filter blocking tendency (FBT) and filterability of middle distillate fuel oils and liquid fuels such as biodiesel and biodiesel blends. The three procedures and associated filter types are applicable to fuels within the viscosity range of 1.3 mm2 to 6.0 mm2/s at 40 °C.NOTE 1: ASTM specification fuels falling within the scope of this test method are: Specification D396 Grades No 1 and 2; Specification D975 Grades 1-D, low sulfur 1-D and 2-D; Specification D2880 Grades 1-GT and 2-GT; Specification D6751.1.2 This test method is not applicable to fuels that contain free (undissolved) water (see 7.3).1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

5.1 Dry paint often comes in contact with itself especially in window and door areas and, depending on its hardness, the pressure, temperature, humidity, and duration of time the surfaces are in contact, sometimes sticks to itself (blocks). This stringent test method can be used to compare and rate subjectively the resistance of paints to blocking.1.1 This test method covers an accelerated procedure for evaluating the face-to-face blocking resistance of trades sales paints. This is not to be confused with blocking resistance Test Method D3003, which is concerned with blocking of industrial coatings on metal substrates, nor with Test Method D2793 which is concerned specifically with wood product finishes and reports results on a satisfactory or not satisfactory basis, rather than by the degree of blocking tendency as in this test method.1.2 The values stated in the SI units of measurement are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

5.1 Blocking develops in film processing and storage when layers of smooth film are in intimate contact with nearly complete exclusion of air. Temperature, or pressure, or both, can induce or change the degree of adhesion of the surfaces.5.2 The procedure of this test method closely simulates the operation of separating film in some end-use applications.1.1 This test method yields quantitative information regarding the degree of blocking (unwanted adhesion) existing between layers of plastic film. It is not intended to measure susceptibility to blocking.1.2 By this procedure, the film-to-film adhesion, expressed as a blocking load in grams, will cause two layers of film with an area of contact of 100 cm2 to separate. The test method is limited to a maximum load of 200 g.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.NOTE 1: This test method is similar to ISO 11502 Method B, but is not technically equivalent.1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

This test method covers the procedures for determining the pressure mottling and sticking, or blocking resistance of organic coatings applied on coil-coated or factory coated metal substrates prior to fabrication. The coated metal is cut into at least four, preferably six, suitably-sized panels which are then subjected to a specified pressure and temperature for a specified time. After the heat is turned off and the specimen cooled, the samples are examined for any signs of sticking or blocking and mottling.1.1 This test method covers determination of the pressure mottling and sticking, or blocking resistance of organic coatings applied to coil-coated or factory-coated metal prior to fabrication.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. 5.1 Some substances that are soluble or appear to be soluble in biodiesel fuel blendstock (B100) at room temperature will, upon cooling to temperatures above the cloud point or standing at room temperature for extended periods, come out of solution. This phenomenon has been observed in both B100 and biodiesel blends. These substances can cause filter plugging. This method provides an accelerated means of assessing the presence of these substances in B100 and their propensity to plug filters.5.1.1 Biodiesel fuel blendstocks that yield short filtration times are expected to give satisfactory operation of biodiesel blends at least down to the cloud point of the biodiesel blends.5.2 The test method can be used in specifications as a means of controlling levels of minor filter plugging components in biodiesel and biodiesel blends.1.1 This test method covers the determination by filtration time after cold soak for the suitability of biodiesel fuel blendstock (B100) that meets all other requirements of Specification D6751 and has a cloud point below 20 °C (68 °F) to provide adequate low temperature operability performance to at least the cloud point of the finished blend.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. Non-SI units are given for information only.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

4.1 Since some potentially adhesive materials are both thermoplastic and hygroscopic, this test method provides means for estimating, on the same material, both thermoplastic and hygroscopic blocking. Because some requirements are more strict than others, two varying degrees of blocking are recognized and defined: (1) First degree blocking, and (2) Second degree blocking. Two types of blocking are covered: (1) Cohesive blocking, and (2) Adhesive blocking.1.1 This test method covers the determination of the blocking point of a thermoplastic or a hygroscopic layer or coating of potentially adhesive material. Potentially adhesive materials comprise those materials in a substantially nonadhesive state which may be activated to an adhesive state by application of heat or solvents.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use.

5.1 This test method is intended for use in evaluating the cleanliness of middle distillate fuels for quality control purposes.5.2 The filter media specified in this procedure is suitable for the materials in the scope.5.3 A change in filtration performance after storage or pretreatment can be indicative of changes of fuel condition.5.4 The filterability of fuels varies depending on filter porosity and structure. Therefore, results from this test method might not correlate with full-scale filtration; however, results from this test might help identify fuels that can reduce filter life.5.5 Causes of poor filterability in industrial/refinery filters include fuel degradation products, contaminants (including water) picked up during storage or transfer, effects due to temperature or composition for diesel, incompatibility of commingled fuels, or interaction of the fuel with the filter media. Any of these could correlate with orifice or filter system plugging, or both.5.6 The results of the EFBT test can range from 1 for a fuel with very good filterability, to over 30 for a fuel with poor filterability. The selection of a single EFBT number to define a pass or fail criteria is not possible, as this will be dependent on the fuel type and application specifics. The correlation between filter life and EFBT number is, therefore, dependent on many variables stemming from the design and use of the engine. Some factors like pressures and particle size removal required come from the fuel system design while others are a result of the duty cycle and environment where the engine is deployed. As an example, a large displacement HPCR (High-Pressure Common Rail) engine in continuous operation may have cleanliness needs much greater than that of a medium or light-duty engine in occasional use. In each case, the expected EFBT value may be different. An EFBT value of <1.4 for the fuel before it reaches the fuel system in the first example of HPCR engines may be suitable, while an EFBT <2.0 may be suitable in the medium/light-duty engines. In a small study, the EFBT test was shown to be more sensitive to constituents in the fuel than the Test Method D2068 method (Appendix X1).1.1 This test method covers a procedure for the determination of the Enhanced Filter Blocking Tendency (EFBT) and the filterability of middle distillate fuel oils. This test is applicable to fuels within the viscosity range of 1.3 mm2/s to 6.0 mm2/s at 40 °C.NOTE 1: ASTM specification fuels falling within the scope of this test method are: Specification D396 Grades No 1 and 2; Specification D975 Grades No. 1-D S15 and S500, and No. 2-D S15 and S500; Specification D2880 Grades No. 1-GT and No. 2-GT.1.2 This test method has interim repeatability only. For more information, see Section 12.1.3 This test method is not applicable to fuels that contain free (undissolved) water (see 7.3).1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
