5.1 In any sealant application, the sealant must be capable of maintaining an adhesive bond to the substrate when held in strain for its intended service life.5.2 This test method is an indicator of a sealant’s ability to adhere under strain to a given substrate.5.3 The default test strain is the movement ability (Class in accordance with Specification C920) of the sealant as designated by the manufacturer. The default joint configuration is 12.7 mm by 12.7 mm by 50.8 mm (1/2 in. by 1/2 in. by 2 in.). Other strains and joint configurations may be used and reported as noted in Section 8 and Table 1.1.1 This test method describes a laboratory procedure for measuring the adhesion/cohesion properties of a sealant when subjected to tensile loads resulting from an applied specified strain. The adhesion/cohesion properties are evaluated before, during, and after water immersion.1.2 This test method examines the adhesive and cohesive performance of a sealant on a specified substrate at a strain equivalent to a multiple of the strain/movement capability (Class in accordance with Specification C920) designated by the manufacturer for the given sealant in accordance with Specification C920.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses after SI units are provided for information only and are not considered standard.1.4 Comparable Tests—Other comparable tests are ISO 10590 and 8340.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

3.1 This guide is not intended to be all-inclusive. There may be additional aspects of performance and safety that need to be addressed in order to have a comprehensive study of the subject matter.3.2 The suggested preliminary guideline summaries that follow were developed by a consensus of bowhunters with many years of field experience, industry people with knowledge in the design and manufacture of broadheads, and individuals experienced in the distribution and retail areas of the business who have close contact with end users.1.1 This guide covers the formulation of preliminary guidelines in six areas of broadhead performance and safety.1.2 The first three guidelines, flight, penetration, and sharpness, are related to performance, but they can have some bearing on safety. The last three, impact resistance, assembly and attachment methods, and packaging, determine to a great degree the safety level of the broadhead in the hands of the end user.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

4.1 This practice can be used to describe the effects of materials, manufacturing, and design variables on the fatigue performance of metallic femoral hip prostheses subject to cyclic loading for large numbers of cycles.4.2 The loading of femoral hip designs in vivo will, in general, differ from the loading defined in this practice. The results obtained here cannot be used to directly predict in vivo performance. However, this practice is designed to allow for comparisons between the fatigue performance of different metallic femoral hip designs when tested under similar conditions.4.3 In order for fatigue data on femoral hip prostheses to be comparable, reproducible, and capable of being correlated among laboratories, it is essential that uniform procedures be established.1.1 This practice covers a procedure for the fatigue testing of metallic femoral hip prostheses used in hip joint replacements. This practice covers the procedures for the performance of fatigue tests on metallic femoral hip stems using a cyclic, constant-amplitude force. It applies to hip prostheses that utilize proximal metaphyseal fixation and are of a modular construct, and it is intended to evaluate the fatigue performance of the modular connections in the metaphyseal filling (that is, proximal body) region of the stem.1.2 This practice is intended to provide useful, consistent, and reproducible information about the fatigue performance of metallic hip prostheses while held in a proximally fixated manner, with the distal end not held by a potting medium.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

5.1 Fixed-cell differential scanning calorimeters are used to determine the transition temperatures and energetics of materials in solution. For this information to be accepted with confidence in an absolute sense, temperature and heat calibration of the apparatus or comparison of the resulting data to that of known standard materials is required.5.2 This practice is useful in calibrating the temperature and heat flow axes of fixed-cell differential scanning calorimeters.1.1 This practice covers the calibration of fixed-cell differential scanning calorimeters over the temperature range from –10 °C to +120 °C.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Specific precautionary statements are given in Section 7.1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

4.1 Situations for which outdoor sound level data are required include, but are not limited to, comparison of sound levels with criteria or regulatory limits.4.2 This guide provides information to (1) measure outdoor sound level in the vicinity of outdoor fixed noise sources, and (2) document other observations necessary for the measurements. This guide provides a standard procedure for a trained acoustical professional that will produce results and documentation which are consistent with the purposes cited in 1.1.1 – 1.1.5.4.3 These sound measurements should be performed by or under the direction of a person experienced in the measurement and analysis of outdoor sound, and who is familiar with the use of the required equipment and techniques.4.4 This guide can be used by individuals, regulatory agencies, or others as a measurement guide to collect data on the sound level received from a fixed source within the constraints cited in Section 8 and Appendix X1 and Appendix X2.4.5 This guide can be used to establish compliance or noncompliance at the time, distance, and conditions during which the data were obtained. However, this guide is only a measurement procedure and does not address the problem of projecting the acquired data outside those conditions, other times of day, other distances, or comparison with specific criteria. In particular, for a given sound source level, distant noise levels will often be found to be greater at night than during the day.1.1 This guide covers the measurement of outdoor sound due to a fixed sound source such as a siren, stationary pump, power plant, or music amphitheater. Procedures characterize the location, sound level, spectral content, and temporal characteristics of that sound source at the time of measurement. Users should be aware that wind and temperature gradients can cause significant variations in sound levels beyond 300 m. With appropriate caution, the use of measurements resulting from this guide include but are not limited to:1.1.1 Assessing compliance with applicable regulations,1.1.2 Monitoring the effectiveness of a noise reduction plan,1.1.3 Verifying the effectiveness of measures for mitigation of noise impact,1.1.4 Validating sound prediction models, and1.1.5 Obtaining source data for use in sound prediction models.1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.3 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
