This specification covers the design, construction, testing, and operating requirements for pneumatic-operated, globe-style, control valves complete with actuators for various fluid systems (steam, gas, and liquid applications). The control valves with actuators may be procured under this specification complete with all associated pneumatic instrumentation necessary for the valve to function in the system application. Valves shall be of following material grades: Grade A; Grade B; Grade C; and Grade D. Valves shall be of following pressure rating types: Type 1; Type 2; Type 3; and Type 4. The inherent flow characteristics of the valve shall be specified as quick-opening, linear-opening, equal-percentage opening, or as specified. Visual examination, hydrostatic shell test, nondestructive examination, seat leakage test, and functional test shall be performed to conform with the specified requirements.1.1 This specification covers the design, construction, testing, and operating requirements for pneumatic-operated, globe-style, control valves complete with actuators for various fluid systems (steam, gas, and liquid applications). 1.1 This practice covers the form and style for specifications under the jurisdiction of ASTM Subcommittee B02.07 Refined Nickel and Cobalt and Their Alloys. This specification covers the design, construction, testing, and operating requirements for hand operated, quick-change cartridge trim, in-line body and angle-body, globe-style valves for use in gas (except oxygen gas) and hydraulic systems. These valves may be used for on-off, and/or throttling applications. Valves under this specification shall be Type I or Type II; Style I or Style II; and shall have the specified size, pressure rating, and end connections. Valves furnished under this specification shall be soft-seated, globe-style valves using a cartridge in which all working parts including the seat are removable as an assembly. The pressure containing envelope shall be made of corrosion-resistant steel, nickel-copper, nickel-aluminum-bronze, or bronze. Internal parts in contact with the line media shall be made of corrosion-resistant steel, nickel-copper, copper-nickel, bronze, nickel-aluminum bronze, or naval brass. Valve construction requirements for the following are detailed: (1) soft-seating insert, (2) pressure envelope, (3) threads, (4) accessibility, (5) nonmetallic element interchangeability, (6) maintainability, (7) reversibility, (8) adjustments, (9) bidirectional operation and bubbletight shut off, (10) guiding, (11) valve operating force, (12) pressurizing rate, (13) operation, and (14) envelope dimensions. Valves shall meet the performance requirements of flow capacity, seat tightness, and external leakage. Each valve shall pass the following tests: visual examination, hydrostatic shell test, seat tightness test, and external leakage test. 5.1 These test methods are used to indicate the integrity of the container and closure system in the distribution environment.5.2 These test methods measure the ability of the container and closure system to prevent leakage when stored or transported upright, inverted, or on the side.5.3 These test methods allow for comparison of container/closure designs of threaded and lug-style closures of similar or different materials, or different manufacturers. These tests are suitable for packaging development, engineering and tooling evaluations.1.1 These test methods may demonstrate container/closure integrity with threaded or lug-style closures by the determination of gross leaks in rigid and semi-rigid containers (up to 4 L [1.06 g]. Such tests may be used to indicate the ability of a liquid container to survive the distribution environment without leaking. These test methods may not be suitable to determine the leak resistance of containers intended for transport of hazardous materials.1.2 Test Methods: 1.2.1 Test Method A, Shipping Container Vibration and Storage Test, covers the ability of a shipping container and its interior packaging to protect the contents from leakage after transportation induced vibration and high-temperature storage.1.2.2 Test Method B, Shipping Container Vibration and Vacuum Chamber Test, is suitable for individual containers and is usually less severe than Test Method A. The advantage of Test Method B is the shortness of the test.1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. This specification covers the chemical and mechanical requirements for style 1 stainless steel metric nuts. Groups and property classes of austenitic, ferritic, martensitic, and precipitation hardening stainless steel alloys are covered. Materials shall be cold-formed, hot-formed, or machined form, and shall conform to chemical, mechanical, dimensional and surface finish properties. Stainless steel shall also conform to heat treatment requirements depending on material grade. The material shall be capable of passing chemical, mechanical, and corrosion resistance tests in accordance to the specification. Product marking and packaging shall conform to the requirements of the specification.1.1 This specification covers the chemical and mechanical requirements for stainless steel metric nuts with nominal thread diameters M1.6 through M36 and intended for use in engineering applications requiring general corrosion resistance.1.2 Eight groups of stainless steel alloys are covered, including three austenitic (Grades A1, A2, and A4), one ferritic (Grade F1), three martensitic (Grades C1, C3, and C4), and one precipitation hardening (Grade P1).1.3 Seventeen property classes are covered, including nine austenitic, one ferritic, six martensitic, and one precipitation hardening. The property classes with the permissible alloys for each are listed in Table 1.1.4 This specification is based in concept and content on ISO 3506. The chemical and mechanical requirements specified for all property classes, except as given in 1.4.1, are essentially identical with classes of the same designation in ISO 3506.1.4.1 This specification includes 13 of the 16 property classes covered in ISO 3506.
