This specification covers vacuum-treated alloy steel forgings intended for use as turbine rotor disks and wheels. The steel shall be made by the basic electric-furnace process. The molten steel shall be vacuum treated using either the vacuum stream degassing process, vacuum-lift process or ladle degassing process prior to or during the pouring of the ingot in order to remove objectionable gases, particularly hydrogen. The forgings shall receive their hot mechanical work under a press, hammer, or mill of sufficient power to work the metal throughout its section. Before reheating for heat treatment, the forging shall be allowed to cool in a manner to prevent damage and to accomplish transformation. The forgings shall be heated to a suitable temperature for a sufficient length of time for complete austenitization and shall be tempered to develop the specified properties. The forgings shall be preliminarily machined on all surfaces prior to heat treatment and shall be stress relieved after machining. To measure some mechanical properties, the specimens shall be subjected to tension test, impact test, and hardness test. A non-destructive test like an ultrasonic inspection shall be made on all available surfaces to demonstrate freedom from detrimental internal indications.1.1 This specification covers vacuum-treated alloy steel forgings intended for use as turbine rotor disks and wheels.1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system are not necessarily exact equivalents; therefore, to ensure conformance with the standard, each system shall be used independently of the other, and values from the two systems shall not be combined.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

5.1 This test method establishes a standard procedure of comparative testing, for driven wheel rim slip, between candidate tire group(s) and a control tire group. This test method is suitable for research and development purposes where tire and rim specimens are compared during a brief testing time period. They may not be suitable for regulatory or specification acceptance purposes because the values obtained may not necessarily agree or correlate, either in rank order or absolute value, with those obtained under other conditions (for example, different locations or different seasonal time periods on the same test course).1.1 This test method is performed to determine the amount of rotational slip occurring at the tire/wheel interface while under heavy longitudinal load conditions.1.2 This test method is suitable for research and development purposes where tires are compared during a single series of tests. They may not be suitable for regulatory statutes or specification acceptance because the values obtained may not necessarily agree or correlate either in rank order or absolute performance level with those obtained under other environmental conditions on other surfaces or the same surface after additional use.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

ASTM A583-93(1999) Standard Specification for Cast Steel Wheels for Railway Service (Withdrawn 2004) Withdrawn, No replacement 发布日期 :  1970-01-01 实施日期 :

1.1 This specification covers one-wear, two-wear, and multiple-wear cast carbon steel wheels for use on locomotives and cars, designated Class U, untreated, and Classes L, A, B, and C, heat-treated wheels. 1.2 The service for which the various classes are intended is as follows: 1.2.1 Class B or C wheels shall be used for freight cars in interchange service. 1.2.2 Class B or C wheels are recommended for use on locomotives. 1.2.3 For passenger car service, the various classes are intended generally as follows: 1.2.3.1 Class L -High speed with more severe braking conditions than other classes and light wheel loads. 1.2.3.2 Class A -High speed service with severe braking conditions, but moderate wheel loads. 1.2.3.3 Class B -High speed service with severe braking conditions and heavier wheel loads. 1.2.3.4 Class C -( ) Service with light braking conditions and heavier wheel loads. 1.2.3.5 Class C -( ) Service with heavier braking conditions where off-tread brakes are employed. 1.2.4 Class U -Wheels may be used in service in which the wheel load and braking are low. 1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

This specification covers precipitation hardened iron base superalloy forgings which are primarily intended for use as turbine rotor disks and wheels. Two heat treatments are covered and selection will depend upon design, service conditions, mechanical properties, and elevated temperature characteristics. The material shall be made by vacuum melting followed by consumable electrode vacuum arc or electroslag remelting. The forgings shall undergo the following tests: tension test, hardness test, stress rupture test, and creep test. Also, the forgings shall be subjected to non-destructive examinations like ultrasonic examination and liquid penetrant examination. The forgings shall be uniform in quality and condition, clean, sound, and free of cracks, seams, laps, shrinkage, and other injurious imperfections.1.1 This specification covers precipitation hardening iron base superalloy forgings which are primarily intended for use as turbine rotor disks and wheels.1.2 Two heat treatments are covered. Selection will depend upon design, service conditions, mechanical properties, and elevated temperature characteristics.1.3 All of the provisions of Specification A788/A788M, apply, except as amended herein.1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system are not necessarily exact equivalents; therefore, to ensure conformance with the standard, each system shall be used independently of the other, and values from the two systems shall not be combined.1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
