5.1 The significance of this test is to determine the thermoplastic pavement marking material’s resistance to impact, under laboratory conditions. The method provides a numerical result for impact failure which can be used to assess quality and determine relative performance between materials.5.2 When the pendulum-impact test is performed on thermoplastic pavement marking materials, the results can indicate the strength and brittleness properties helpful in researching and improving their field durability. Anyone attempting to perform this test should initially review Test Methods D256 and Test Method D4812; especially the equipment setup.5.3 The following sample preparation and testing setup method is important so inconsistencies in sample preparation do not cause more inconsistency in the results that are inherent when testing thermoplastic pavement marking materials.1.1 This test method covers the sample preparation for cantilever beams and test methodology of thermoplastic pavement marking materials, similar to the “Izod Impact” method listed in Test Method D4812.1.1.1 Some methods call for results in inch pound-force (in.·lbf) as opposed to the common foot pound-force/inch (ft·lbf/in.) or Joule/meter (J/m) (energy absorbed per unit of specimen of similar cross-section). This method does not purport to cover all the issues involved with the pendulum impact of cantilever beams and suggests that Test Method D4812 and Test Methods D256 be reviewed before this methodology is attempted.1.1.2 Thermoplastic pavement marking materials are a highly filled polymer matrix. Depending on the formula the resulting matrix may be brittle, therefore possibly resulting in inconsistent test results.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

This specification covers the standard requirements for laser beam welded, black plain end steel pipe for use in the conveyance of fluids under pressure. Dimensions and weight [mass] per unit length of pipes with designated NPS sizes and specified nominal wall thickness shall be given. Heat and product analysis shall be performed wherein steel shall conform to the required chemical composition for carbon, sulfur, and phosphorus. The steel shall conform to the required tensile properties such as minimum and maximum yield strength. The following tests shall be conducted, namely: Charpy V-notch test; weld ductility test; and hydrostatic test.1.1 This specification covers laser beam welded, black, plain end steel pipe for use in the conveyance of fluids under pressure. Pipe in sizes NPS 1 to 26, inclusive, with nominal wall thickness 0.750 in. [19.1 mm] or less, as given in Table 1, is included. Pipe having other dimensions, in this size range, may be furnished provided such pipe complies with all other requirements of this specification.1.2 It is intended that the pipe be capable of being circumferentially welded in the field when welding procedures in accordance with the requirements of the applicable pipeline construction code are used.1.3 The values stated in either inch-pound units or in SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. The values in each system are not exact equivalents: therefore, each system is to be used independently of the other, without combining values in any way.1.4 The following precautionary statement pertains to the test method portion, Section 14, of this specification. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

4.1 Different electroplating systems can be corroded under the same conditions for the same length of time. Differences in the average values of the radius or half-width or of penetration into an underlying metal layer are significant measures of the relative corrosion resistance of the systems. Thus, if the pit radii are substantially higher on samples with a given electroplating system, when compared to other systems, a tendency for earlier failure of the former by formation of visible pits is indicated. If penetration into the semi-bright nickel layer is substantially higher, a tendency for earlier failure by corrosion of basis metal is evident.1.1 This test method provides a means for measuring the average dimensions and number of corrosion sites in an electroplated decorative nickel plus chromium or copper plus nickel plus chromium coating on steel after the coating has been subjected to corrosion tests. This test method is useful for comparing the relative corrosion resistances of different electroplating systems and for comparing the relative corrosivities of different corrosive environments. The numbers and sizes of corrosion sites are related to deterioration of appearance. Penetration of the electroplated coatings leads to appearance of basis metal corrosion products.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use.

4.1 In the absence of deflection measurements from actual installed-above-ground piping, this test method may be used to evaluate the influence of span length on mid-span deflections at differing temperatures under full bore flow.NOTE 3: A flat bearing area, small contact area, and narrow bearing width may induce high localized support interaction stresses, and constraints imposed by the supports may also adversely influence deflections and performance of the pipe.1.1 This test method covers measurement of the deflection as a function of time of a specimen of fiberglass pipe supported on a flat non-arced support as a simple beam under full bore flow of water at elevated temperatures. Both glass-fiber-reinforced thermosetting-resin pipe (RTRP) and glass-fiber-reinforced polymer mortar pipe (RPMP) are fiberglass pipes.NOTE 1: For the purposes of this standard, polymer does not include natural polymers.1.2 This test method can be used to determine deflection at varying conditions by substituting other test media.1.3 Deflections observed using this test method are representative only of piping supported as a simple beam under full bore flow which has one diameter of pipe overhanging at each support.1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are provided for information purposes only.NOTE 2: There is no known ISO equivalent to this standard.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
