3.1 Use of this guide is intended to provide information on the galvanic corrosion of metals in electrical contact in an electrolyte that does not have a flow velocity sufficient to cause erosion-corrosion or cavitation.3.2 This standard is presented as a guide for conducting galvanic corrosion tests in liquid electrolyte solutions, both in the laboratory and in service environments. Adherence to this guide will aid in avoiding some of the inherent difficulties in such testing.1.1 This guide covers conducting and evaluating galvanic corrosion tests to characterize the behavior of two dissimilar metals in electrical contact in an electrolyte under low-flow conditions. It can be adapted to wrought or cast metals and alloys.1.2 This guide covers the selection of materials, specimen preparation, test environment, method of exposure, and method for evaluating the results to characterize the behavior of galvanic couples in an electrolyte.NOTE 1: Additional information on galvanic corrosion testing and examples of the conduct and evaluation of galvanic corrosion tests in electrolytes are given in Refs (1)2 through (2).1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

AbstractThese practices are intended for production and preparation of gray iron castings for porcelain enamelling. Design of the casting should be such as to minimize variations in temperature during firing and cooling. The governing factors in pattern layout and shop control are elimination of discontinuities, chill, and inclusions at or near the surfaces to be coated. Visual inspection methods for enamelling surfaces should place emphasis on the detection and remedy of porosity, sand inclusions, and gas holes. Porosity consisting of essentially subsurface pinholes, shallow covered blows, body scars, or shrinkage near the surface may or may not be acceptable for correction, depending upon severity.1.1 These practices are intended to indicate certain casting characteristics and pre-enameling practices which will facilitate finishing by the wet- or dry-process methods of porcelain enameling. All of the listed recommendations are based on experiences with gray iron casting and enameling.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

2.1 Material properties determined by this test method are useful for quality control of glass-fiber reinforced concrete, ascertaining compliance with governing specifications, and research and development.1.1 This test method covers the determinations of dry and wet bulk density, water absorption, and apparent porosity of thin sections of glass-fiber reinforced concrete.NOTE 1: This test method does not involve a determination of absolute specific gravity. Therefore, such pore space as may be present in the specimen that is not emptied during the specified drying or is not filled with water during the specified immersion is considered “impermeable” and is not differentiated from the solid portion of the specimen for the calculations, especially those for percent voids.Depending upon the pore size distribution and the pore entry radii of the specimen and on the purposes for which the test results are desired, the procedures of this method may be adequate, or they may be insufficiently rigorous. In the event that it is desired to fill more of the pores than will be filled by immersion, various techniques involving the use of vacuum treatment or increased pressure may be used. If a rigorous measure of total pore space is desired, this can only be obtained by determining absolute specific gravity by first reducing the sample to discrete particles, each of which is sufficiently small so that no impermeable space can exist within any of the particles.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard.

Exposure in a nonoperational mode provides for conditioning and assessment of the physical appearance of a solar collector resulting from moderately severe solar irradiation, ambient temperature, and effects of moisture on the various materials or construction. This practice describes actual exposure conditions that have a high probability of occurring sometime during the installation of a solar collector, or during operation, or malfunction of a solar energy system. This practice shall be considered to be a limited aging test in that it does not address those aging effects resulting from fluid-to-collector interfaces. This practice applies to all solar thermal collector types.1.1 This practice defines the procedure to expose a solar thermal collector to an outdoor or simulated outdoor environment in a nonoperational model. The procedure provides for periodic inspections and a post-exposure disassembly and inspection of the collector.1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
