This is not a routine test. The values recorded are applicable only to the sewer being tested and at the time of testing.1.1 This practice covers procedures for testing concrete pipe sewer lines, when using the low-pressure air test method to demonstrate the integrity of the installed material and the construction procedures. This practice is used for testing 4 to 24-in. circular concrete pipe sewer lines utilizing gasketed joints.1.2 This practice is also used as a preliminary test to enable the installer to demonstrate the condition of the line prior to backfill.1.3 A complete metric companion to Practice C 924 has been developed—C 924M; therefore, no metric equivalents are presented in this practice.Note 1—The user of this practice is advised that air test criteria presented in this practice are similar to those in general use. The test and criteria have been used widely and successfully in testing smaller diameter pipe, but additional data are required to confirm the safety and applicability or develop criteria for pipe larger than 24 in. in diameter. Larger pipe will be accepted more conveniently by visual inspection and individual joint testing.Note 2—The user of this practice is advised that no correlation has been found between air loss and water leakage.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use (see Section 6, Safety Precautions).

4.1 This low-pressure air testing practice detects damaged piping or improper jointing by measuring the rate at which air under pressure escapes from an isolated section of sewer.4.2 The rate of air loss indicates the presence or absence of damaged piping or leaking joints. This practice is not intended to show total system water leakage limits and shall not be used as a quantitative measure of leakage under service conditions for infiltration or exfiltration.NOTE 1: A finding of acceptable air loss specified in this practice can be interpreted as an installation acceptance test in lieu of infiltration or exfiltration testing.4.3 This practice provides assurance of initial condition and quality of workmanship of properly-installed sewer pipe.1.1 This practice provides procedures for testing non-pressure plastic pipe sewer lines, using low-pressure air to prove the integrity of the installed material and the construction procedures. Two procedures are included to find the rate of air leakage—the constant-pressure method and the time-pressure drop method.1.2 This practice is performed on lines after all connections and service laterals have been plugged and braced adequately to withstand the test pressure. The time between completion of the backfill operation and low-pressure air testing may be specified by the approving authority.1.3 This practice is used as a preliminary test, which enables the installer to show the condition of a buried line prior to final backfill, paving, and other construction activities.1.4 This practice is applicable to all non-pressure sewer lines made of thermoplastic pipe, reinforced thermosetting resin (RTRP) pipe, and reinforced plastic mortar (RPM) pipe, defined in Terminology D883, D1600, and F412.1.5 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. For specific precautionary statements, see Section 5.1.7 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

This specification covers reinforced plastic pipe and fitting system made from epoxy resin and glass-fiber reinforcement, together with adhesive for joint assembly, intended for services in aviation jet turbine fuel lines installed below ground. The fiberglass pipe shall be round and straight, and the pipe and fittings shall be of uniform density, resin content, and surface finish. Tests shall be conducted on the specimen to determine compliance with the following performance requirements: joint strength; hydrostatic strength; impact resistance; boil resistance; external load resistance; and degradation resistance.1.1 This specification covers a reinforced plastic pipe and fittings system made from epoxy resin and glass-fiber reinforcement, together with adhesive for joint assembly, intended for service up to 150°F (65.6°C) and 150-psig (1034-kPa) operating pressure and surges up to 275 psig (1896 kPa) in aviation jet turbine fuel lines installed below ground.1.2 The dimensionless designator NPS has been substituted in this specification for such traditional terms as nominal diameter, size, and nominal size.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values in parentheses are for information only.1.4 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to the test method portion, Section 9, of this specification: This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.NOTE 1: There is no known ISO equivalent to this standard.1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

This test method contains procedures using low-pressure air for testing the integrity of installed vitrified clay pipe lines such as gravity-flow sewer pipes. The procedures detailed here should be performed on lines after adequately and properly plugging and bracing connection laterals, if any, and after the trenches are backfilled for a sufficient time. This test method can also be used as a preliminary test to demonstrate the condition of the line prior to backfill and further construction activities.1.1 This test method defines procedures for testing vitrified clay pipe lines, using low-pressure air, to demonstrate the integrity of the installed line. Refer to Practice C12.1.2 This test method shall be performed on lines after connection laterals, if any, have been plugged and braced adequately to withstand the test pressure, and after the trenches have been backfilled for a sufficient time to generate a significant portion of the ultimate trench load on the pipe line. The time between completion of the backfill operation and low-pressure air testing shall be determined by the approving authority.1.3 This test method may also be used as a preliminary test, which enables the installer to demonstrate the condition of the line prior to backfill and further construction activities.1.4 This test method is suitable for testing gravity-flow sewer pipe constructed of vitrified clay or combinations of clay and other pipe materials.1.5 Terminology C896 is to be used for clarification of terminology in this test method.1.6 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.1.7 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.8 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
