This practice summarizes well-known, generally practical methods for producing adherent electrodeposits of nickel on nickel. The types of nickel for which an overplate of nickel may be desired are dull nickel, semi-bright nickel, bright nickel, and nickel strike. The following cleaning treatments may be used for all conditions and types of electrodeposited nickel: degreasing and electrolytic alkaline cleaning. The procedures should be used for etching or activating the nickel surface are the following: anodic treatment in concentrated sulfuric acid; anodic etching in sulfuric acid; anodic etching in watts-type bath; acid-nickel chloride treatment; etching by acid immersion; electropolishing treatment; and cathodic treatment.1.1 This practice summarizes well-known, generally practical methods for producing adherent electrodeposits of nickel on nickel.1.2 Electrodeposits of nickel on nickel are produced, for example, to improve the performance of decorative coatings, to reclaim electroplated parts that are defective, and to resume nickel electroplating after interruptions in processing. Interruptions may be deliberate, for example, to machine the electrodeposit at an intermediate stage in the electrodeposition of thick nickel coatings. The interruptions may be unintentional, for example, resulting from equipment and power failures.1.3 To ensure good adhesion of nickel to nickel, precautions should be taken to avoid biopolar effects during nickel electroplating. This is of particular importance in return-type automatic plating machines where one rack follows another rack closely. Bipolar effects can be avoided by making the racks cathodic while they are entering or leaving the nickel tank. Separate current control on entry and exit stations is desirable.1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. This specification covers hot- and cold-worked precipitation-hardenable nickel alloy rod, bar, forgings, and forging stock for high-temperature service. Chemical analysis shall be performed on the alloy and shall conform to the chemical composition requirement in carbon, manganese, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, chromium, cobalt, molybdenum, columbium, tantalum, titanium, aluminum, zirconium, boron, iron, copper, and nickel. The material shall follow recommended annealing treatment, solution treatment, stabilizing treatment, and precipitation hardening treatment. This specification covers hot- and cold-finished alloy steel bars including rounds, squares, hexagons, and hot-rolled or extruded shapes for use in corrosion and heat-resisting service. The steel specimens shall be furnished in the solution annealed condition with subsequent light drawing and straightening permitted. The steel materials shall conform to the required chemical compositions of carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, nickel, chromium, and molybdenum. Mechanical tests shall be performed wherein the materials shall conform to the required values of tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and hardness.1.1 This specification covers hot- and cold-finished alloy steel bars having a chromium content equal to or less than 11.0 % including rounds, squares, hexagons, and hot-rolled or extruded shapes for use in corrosion and heat-resisting service.1.2 Some steels covered by this specification, especially the high silicon-containing steels, because of their particular alloy content and specialized properties, may require special care in their fabrication and welding. Specific procedures are of fundamental importance, and it is presupposed that all parameters will be in accordance with approved test methods capable of producing the desired properties in the finished fabrication.1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. This specification deals with the standard structural quality of high-strength low-alloy nickel, copper, phosphorus steel H-piles and sheet piling for use in the construction of dock walls, bulkheads, excavations, and like applications in marine environments. The steel shall be semi-killed or killed and shall be exposed to the washing action of rain and the drying action of wind or sun, or both to determine its atmospheric corrosion resistance. Material specimens shall undergo product analysis, heat analysis, and tension testing and shall conform to the required chemical composition, tolerance, tensile strength, yield point, and elongation specifications.1.1 This specification covers high-strength low-alloy nickel, copper, phosphorus steel H-piles and sheet piling of structural quality for use in the construction of dock walls, sea walls, bulkheads, excavations, and like applications in marine environments.1.2 The atmospheric corrosion resistance of this steel is substantially better than that of ordinary carbon steels with or without copper addition (see Note 1). The steel has also shown to have substantially greater resistance to seawater “Splash Zone” corrosion than ordinary carbon steel (Specifications A36/A36M and A328/A328M) where exposed to the washing action of rain and the drying action of the wind or sun, or both. Where the steel is not boldly exposed, the usual provisions for the protection of ordinary carbon steel should be considered.NOTE 1: For methods of estimating atmospheric corrosion resistance of low-alloy steels, see Guide G101.1.3 When the steel is to be welded, it is presupposed that a welding procedure suitable for the grade of steel and intended use or service will be utilized. 4.1 These test methods for the chemical analysis of metals and alloys are primarily intended as referee methods to test such materials for compliance with compositional specifications, particularly those under the jurisdiction of Committee B02 on Nonferrous Metals and Alloys. This specification covers nickel-coated, soft or annealed, round copper wire for use in electrical equipment. Five classes of wire are covered as follows: Class 2, Class 4, Class 7, Class 10, and Class 27. Properties like elongation, resistivity and dimensions of the wire shall be determined.
