5.1 Determining these performance characteristics of vegetative (green) roof systems provides information to facilitate the assessment of related engineering aspects of the facility. Such aspects may include structural design requirements, mechanical engineering and thermal design requirements, and fire and life safety requirements.5.1.1 Accurate information about the water and media holding capacity of geocomposite drain layers is essential to predict dead load for vegetative (green) roof systems.5.2 Determining these performance characteristics of vegetative (green) roof systems provides information to facilitate assessment of the performance of one vegetative (green) roof system relative to one another.5.2.1 Water capture is also useful in assessing irrigation requirements for vegetative (green) roof designs.5.2.2 Information about the unit media retention volume is required to predict the quantity of material that will be required to construct a vegetative (green) roof with a specified total thickness.1.1 This test method covers the determination of the water and media retention of synthetic drains layers used in vegetative (green) roof systems.1.2 This test method is applicable to geocomposite drain layers that retain water and media in cup-like receptacles on their upper surface. Examples include shaped plastic membranes and closed-cell plastic foam boards.1.3 This test method does not apply to products manufactured from water-absorptive materials.1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. 5.1 Chlorinated phenoxyacid herbicides, and other organic acids are used extensively for weed control. Esters and salts of 2,4-D and silvex have been used as aquatic herbicides in lakes, streams, and irrigation canals. Phenoxy acid herbicides can be toxic even at low concentrations. For example, the 96 h, TLm for silvex is 2.4 mg/L for bluegills (1).8 These reasons make apparent the need for a standard test method for such compounds in water.1.1 This test method covers a gas chromatographic procedure for the quantitative determination of selected chlorinated acids and other acidic herbicides in water. Similar chemicals may also be determined by this test method, but it is the user’s responsibility to verify the applicability of this test method to any compounds not listed in this scope. The form of each acid is not distinguished by this test method. Results are calculated and reported for each listed analyte as the total free acid.1.3 This test method has been validated in an interlaboratory test for reagent water and finished tap water. The analyst should recognize that precision and bias reported in Section 18 may not be applicable to other waters.1.4 This test method is restricted to use by or under the supervision of analysts experienced in the use of gas chromatography (GC) and in the interpretation of gas chromatograms. Each analyst must demonstrate the ability to generate acceptable results with this test method using the procedure described in 19.3. It is the user’s responsibility to ensure the validity of this test method for waters of untested matrices.1.5 Analytes that are not separated chromatographically, that is, which have very similar retention times, cannot be individually identified and measured in the same calibration mixture or water sample unless an alternate technique for identification and quantitation exists (16.6, 16.7, and 16.8).1.6 When this test method is used to analyze unfamiliar samples for any or all of the analytes given in 1.1, analyte identifications must be confirmed by at least one additional qualitative technique.1.7 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. 5.1 This standard, used in conjunction with a verification protocol can be used to gain certification for the purposes of the removal of trash and/or debris from stormwater runoff in order to meet regulatory and permit needs.1.1 The scope of this standard is to provide test criteria for the evaluation of Stormwater Control Measures (SCM), especially Manufactured stormwater Treatment Devices (MTDs), for the removal of trash and/or debris greater than 5 mm in at least two dimensions in a laboratory setting. The use of this standard in conjunction with an appropriate verification program allows for the publication of verified reporting for use in gaining certification by Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).1.2 For the purpose of this method, a Trash Capture Device (TCD) is an SCM that has the capacity to capture and retain trash and or debris. This may be the primary objective of the device or it may be a secondary feature of a device designed primarily as a Hydrodynamic Separator (HDS) or a filter for capturing sediment particles. This protocol does not address the sediment removal of such devices.1.3 Units—The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard, except for methods to establish and report sediment concentration and particle size. It is convention to exclusively describe sediment concentration in mg/L and particle size in mm or μm, both of which are SI units. The SI units given in parentheses are mathematical conversions, which are provided for information purposes only and are not considered standard. Reporting of test results in units other than inch-pound units shall not be regarded as non-conformance with this test method.1.4 Acceptance of test results attained according to this specification may be subject to specific requirements set by a Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP), a specific verification protocol, or AHJ.
