5.1 The roll stability test is widely used in specifications. Test results are significant insofar as they can show a directional change in consistency that could occur in service. No accurate correlation is established between the test results and shear stability in actual service.1.1 This test method covers determination of the changes in the consistency, as measured by cone penetration, of lubricating greases when worked in the roll stability test apparatus.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses after SI units are provided for information only and are not considered standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

5.1 Thermal stability characterizes physical and chemical property changes which may adversely affect an oil's lubricating performance. This test method evaluates the thermal stability of a hydraulic oil in the presence of copper and steel at 135 °C. No correlation of the test to field service has been made.1.1 This test method2 is designed primarily to evaluate the thermal stability of hydrocarbon based hydraulic oils although oxidation may occur during the test.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. 3.1 The guide, as now constituted, is not suitable for ranking of hand dishwashing products, since no basis is available at this time for correlation of the foam stability of these products using any particular food soil or combination of soils with consumers' ranking of performance.3.2 The relative foam stability ranking of hand dishwashing detergent products will vary greatly depending on the type of food soils used in the test. Therefore, selection of the standard food soil to be used in a test shall be made by agreement between the interested parties on the basis of experience.3.3 This laboratory screening guide includes flexibility in several areas so as to allow its use by the maximum number of laboratories, without purchase of significant additional equipment. It should be recognized, therefore, that differences in specific equipment may result in a reduced level of interlaboratory and inter-operator precision, and such results must be evaluated with caution.1.1 This guide provides guidelines for several techniques of measuring the foam stability of light-duty hand dishwashing detergent products in the presence of artificially applied test-food soils. It is intended as a laboratory screening test to aid in the formulation of products, for quality control and as a basis between the formulator and supplier in standardizing foam stability of the detergents.1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. 5.1 Thermal stability characterizes physical and chemical property changes which may adversely affect an oil's lubricating performance. This test method evaluates the thermal stability of a way lubricant in the presence of copper and steel rods at 100 °C. Deposits and rod colors are the evaluation criteria. No correlation of the test to field service has been made.5.2 This test method is intended for use in qualifying a way lubricant, rather than for quality control or condition monitoring purposes.1.1 This test method covers the evaluation of the thermal stability of hydrocarbon-based way lubricants, although oxidation may occur during the test.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard.1.2.1 Exception—The values given in parentheses are for information only.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. 4.1 This practice will provide a procedure for determining the stability of an adhesive to withstand five repeated cycles, or as otherwise specified, of freezing and thawing at a specific temperature.4.2 This practice will allow the user to determine whether or not the adhesive can be appropriately applied after cycling of freezing and thawing.4.3 This practice will identify any significant changes in the manufactured viscosity of the product after five cycles, or as otherwise specified, of freezing and thawing at a specific temperature.4.4 This practice will help determine if the pH of adhesive has changed significantly due to the freezing and thawing cycles.1.1 This practice determines the ability of an adhesive to withstand repeated freezing and thawing cycles at specific temperatures without any significant change in physical properties.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. 5.1 Permanent Shear Stability Index (PSSI) is a measure of the loss of viscosity, due to shearing, contributed by a specified additive.NOTE 2: For example, a PSSI of 50 means the additive will lose 50 % of the viscosity it contributes to the finished oil.5.2 The selection of appropriate base fluids and additive concentrations to be used in test oils is left to individual operators or companies. These choices will depend on the intended application for the additive.NOTE 3: PSSI may depend more strongly on base fluid, additive concentration, additive chemistry, and the presence of other additives for base fluids of unusual composition (for example, esters) or if additives outside the common range of chemistries and concentrations are used. Caution should be exercised when interpreting results from different sources.1.1 This practice specifies the procedure for the calculation of Permanent Shear Stability Index (PSSI) of an additive using viscosities before and after a shearing procedure.1.2 PSSI is calculated for a single blend component and can then be used to estimate the effects of that component on finished lubricant blends.1.3 This practice is applicable to many products and may use data from many different test methods. The calculation is presented in its most general form in order not to restrict its use.1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

4.1 Rubber and rubber products for certain applications must withstand the environmental effect of high humidity and resist the deterioration of physical properties under these conditions with time. This test method allows performance properties to be determined under the accelerated conditions of high humidity and elevated temperature.4.2 In view of climatic variations in service conditions, this method may not give results correlating exactly with service performance. However, the test method yields comparative data on which to base judgment as to service quality and it is useful in research and development work.4.3 This test method is not applicable to coated fabrics; its use for materials other than rubber has not been established.1.1 This test method covers the determination of the ability of rubber to withstand the environmental effects of high humidity. This is accomplished by examination of the material after removal from the moisture-laden environment. It is designed for testing specimens of rubber materials cut from standard sheets prepared in accordance with Practice D3182.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use.
