It covers ordering information, requirements for wires, joints and lay, construction requirements, rated strength of conductor, density, mass per unit length and electrical resistance, and cross-sectional area. The standard also addresses workmanship, finish, and appearance, together with mechanical as well as electrical and dimensional tests, tests and retests, inspection, and packaging and package marking.1.1 This specification covers concentric-lay-stranded conductors made from round aluminum-zirconium alloy wires and an aluminum matrix composite (AMC) core wire(s) for use as overhead electrical conductors (Explanatory Note 1 and Explanatory Note 2).1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system are not necessarily exact equivalents; therefore, to ensure conformance with the standard, each system shall be used independently of the other, and values from the two systems shall not be combined.1.3 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

The conductor types covered in this specification are designated Type B for bunch-stranded conductors, and Type R for rope-lay bunch-stranded conductors. On the other hand, the wire classifications are assigned as: Class R, stranded conductors using wire 42 AWG; Class S, stranded conductors using wire 44 AWG; Class T, stranded conductors using wire 46 AWG; Class U, stranded conductors using wire 48 AWG; and Class V, stranded conductors using wire 50 AWG. Wires shall undergo tests that shall evaluated their conformance to physical and electrical properties such as wire cross-sectional area and diameter, coating thickness, tensile strength, elongation, and DC resistance.1.1 This specification covers bare bunch-stranded and rope-lay bunch-stranded conductors made from round copper wires finer than No. 40 AWG with diameters less than 0.0031 in. (.078 mm), either coated or uncoated with tin or silver, for use as electrical conductors. (Explanatory Note 1).1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.1.2.1 Exceptions—The SI values for density and temperature are to be regarded as standard.1.3 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

4.1 This test method is designed as an inspection or acceptance test of tensile strength for stranded metallic conductors.1.1 This test method covers the procedure for determining the tensile strength by a mass method for uninsulated stranded electrical conductors intended for use in electronic application (Explanatory Note 1).1.1.1 The test method is intended for conductors that are one type of wire (non-composite). The wire type being plain, clad, or coated and stranded together to operate mechanically and electrically as a single conductor.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Some specific hazards statements are given in Section 7 on Hazards.1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

This specification covers bare rope-lay-stranded conductors having bunch-stranded members from round copper wires, either uncoated or coated with tin, lead, or lead-alloy for use in electrical conductors. Rope-lay-stranded conductors having bunch-stranded members are classified as Class I, Class K, and Class M. Necessary joints in wires or in groups of wires shall be made in accordance with accepted commercial practice, taking into account the size of the wire or group of wires as related to the size of the entire conductor. Conductors of the same size and description furnished on one order shall have the same lay. In very flexible conductors, such as welding conductor, the direction of lay of the stranded members forming rope-lay-stranded conductor may be in the same, rather than in teversed. For the purpose of calculating the mass, cross sections, etc., the density of copper shall be taken. The mass and electrical resistance of a unit length of stranded conductor as a function of the length of lay shall be measured.1.1 This specification covers bare rope-lay-stranded conductors having bunch-stranded members made from round copper wires, either uncoated or coated with tin, lead, or lead-alloy for use as electrical conductors (Explanatory Notes 1 and 2).1.2 Coated wires shall include only those wires with finished diameters and densities substantially equal to the respective diameters and densities of uncoated wires.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. Each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the specification. For conductor sizes designated by AWG or kcmil, the requirements in SI units have been numerically converted from corresponding values, stated or derived, in inch-pound units. For conductor sizes designated by SI units only, the requirements are stated or derived in SI units.1.3.1 For density, resistivity, and temperature, the values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard.1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

This specification covers bare rope-lay-stranded conductors having concentric-stranded members made from round copper wires, either uncoated or coated with tin, lead, or lead-alloy for use as electrical conductors. Coated wires shall include only those wires with finished diameters and densities substantially equal to the respective diameters and densities of uncoated wires. The rope-lay-stranded copper conductors under this specification are classified either as Class G or Class H. Requirements for joint construction (by soldering, brazing, or welding), lay length, and strand construction are detailed. Tests for the electrical properties of wires composing conductors made from soft or annealed copper wire, bare or coated, shall be made before stranding, while tests for the physical properties (such as elongation) may be made upon the wires before stranding or upon wires removed from the completed stranded conductors, but need not be made upon both. Elongation tests to determine compliance shall not be made on the conductor as a unit. If a tinning, lead-coating, or lead-alloy-coating test is required, it shall be made on the wires prior to stranding. The method of calculating mass, cross-sections and electrical resistance, and the prescribed density of copper to be taken for calculations are given.1.1 This specification covers bare rope-lay-stranded conductors having concentric-stranded members made from round copper wires, either uncoated or coated with tin, lead, or lead-alloy for use as electrical conductors (Explanatory Note 1 and Note 2).1.2 Coated wires shall include only those wires with finished diameters and densities substantially equal to the respective diameters and densities of uncoated wires.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard.
