4.1 Guidelines are provided for remedying existing SSG installations. Refer to Guide C1401 for a complete discussion of proper SSG design, installation, and materials.4.2 Due to the unlimited range of materials that may be used in a particular building, and because each design is unique, the information contained in this guide is general in nature.4.3 This guide should not be the only reference consulted when designing remedies for SSG. For example, the local building code and the manufacturers' product literature for the actual materials used, if known, also should be considered. The sealant manufacturer(s) should be involved fully with the remedial design.4.4 This guide is intended to be a resource, but it is not a substitute for experience and judgement in designing remedies for the specialized types of construction discussed. It is intended to be used in conjunction with other resources as an aid in remedying problems with existing SSG.1.1 This guide provides recommendations for remedying existing structural sealant glazing (hereinafter called SSG) installations in situ. Remedial work may be necessary when a lite of glass is replaced, for routine maintenance, or after distress is discovered. This guide focuses on large-scale remedies, not isolated repairs or maintenance.1.2 Committee C24 is not aware of any comparable standards published by other organizations.1.3 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

4.1 Durable adhesive bonds of composite laminates can be obtained reliably only through proper selection and careful control of the materials used and the steps in the bonding process. The preparation of the composite laminates to obtain surfaces with appropriate characteristics is a critical step. Improper surface preparation can produce seemingly acceptable bonds that can degrade rapidly with time. This practice describes how properly prepared surfaces can be obtained.4.2 The formation of reproducible, durable, adhesive bonds in structural units requires great care in the selection of materials, the preparation of the surfaces of the parts to be bonded, the fit of parts, and the performance of the steps in the bonding process. Experience has shown that adhesive bonding carried out in accordance with this practice produces reproducible bonds.1.1 This practice covers the materials, processes, and quality controls to be used in the manufacture of durable adhesive bonded, nonmetallic faced, flat sandwich panels for rigid wall relocatable shelters.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to inch-pound units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

This guide provides a recommended list of selected ship structure details for use in ship construction. Structural details which have failed in service and are not recommended for use in ship construction are included as well. This guide is intended to convey the lessons learned on different configurations of ship structure details, not the dimensions, thickness, or construction methods which would result from structural calculations. Details are shown for the ten families of structural details, which are: beam brackets, clearance cut-outs, gunwale connections, miscellaneous cut-outs, non-tight collars, panel stiffeners, stanchion ends, stiffener ends, tight collars, and tripping brackets. Evaluation of details is based on in-service experience as described in "Design Guide for Structural Details". Data for over 400 details is summarized and rated by observed relative successful performance. Each of the ten families of details includes configurations with no signs of failures. The details without failures within each family group are shown in descending order of numbers observed. Those details with failures are shown in ascending order of failures (percentages are indicated for each). Thus the first detail shown in each family group has the best observed service performance and is most highly recommended while the last has the highest failure rate and therefore least desirable. The details provide guidance in the selection of structural detail configurations in future design and repair of such details.1.1 This guide provides a recommended list of selected ship structure details for use in ship construction.1.2 Structural details which have failed in service and are not recommended for use in ship construction are included as well.1.3 This guide is intended to convey the lessons learned on different configurations of ship structure details, not the dimensions, thickness, or construction methods which would result from structural calculations.41.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

3.1 The failure of wood-based materials with impact loads is sometimes an important criteria in design considerations. In addition, some effects on the mechanical properties of wood, such as decay, are best evaluated by measuring its toughness. This test method serves to evaluate the toughness of structural panel products while Methods D143 can be used to measure the toughness of solid clear wood specimens.1.1 This test method for toughness of wood structural panels covers the determination of energy necessary to cause failure by impact loading of a beam specimen which is simply supported and loaded at midspan. Wood structural panels in use include plywood, oriented strand board, and composites of veneer and of wood-based layers.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use.
