3.1 This test method defines the thermal expansion of glaze frits by the interferometric method. This determination is critical in avoiding crazing (cracking) of these glass coatings due to mismatching of the thermal expansion between the coating and substrate materials.1.1 This test method covers the interferometric determination of linear thermal expansion of premelted glaze frits and fired ceramic whiteware materials at temperatures lower than 1000 °C (1830 °F).1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.3 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

4.1 The term “reference” as employed in this practice implies that either the glass or the metal of the reference glass-metal seal will be a “standard reference material” such as those supplied for other physical tests by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, or a secondary reference material whose sealing characteristics have been determined by seals to a standard reference material (see NBS Special Publication 260). Until standard reference materials for seals are established by the NIST, secondary reference materials may be agreed upon between manufacturer and purchaser.1.1 This practice covers the preparation and testing of a reference glass-metal sandwich seal for determining stress in the glass or for determining the degree of thermal expansion (or contraction) mismatch between the glass and metal. Tests are in accordance with Test Method F218 (Section 2).1.2 This practice applies to all glass and metal (or alloy) combinations normally sealed together in the production of electronic components.1.3 The practical limit of the test in deriving mismatch is approximately 300 ppm, above which the glass is likely to fracture.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

1.1 This specification covers preformed expansion joint fillers made from closed-cell polyolefin materials having suitable compressibility and nonextruding characteristics.1.1.1 Type I, closed-cell polyethylene or blended polyethylene.1.2 These joint fillers are intended for use in concrete pavements in full-depth joints. There are several variations in size. A typical size measures 0.5 in. (12.7 mm) in thickness, 4.0 in. (101.6 mm) in width, and 10 ft (3.048 m) in length and will relieve stress or avoid potential distress in adjacent structures or pavements.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use.

Tests are in accordance with Test Method F218, Subsection 1.1.1.2 This practice applies to all glass and metal (or alloy) combinations normally sealed together in the production of electronic components. It should not be attempted with glass-metal combinations having widely divergent thermal expansion (or contraction) properties.1.3 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

This specification covers the requirements and corresponding test methods for two iron-nickel alloys and one iron-nickel-cobalt alloy, for low thermal expansion applications. The two iron-nickel alloys, which both contain nominally 36 % nickel and 64 % iron, are the conventional alloy designated as UNS No. K93603 and the free-machining alloy designated as UNS No. K93050. On the other hand, the iron-nickel-cobalt alloy contains nominally 32 % nickel, 5 % cobalt and 63 % iron, and is designated as UNS No. K93500. UNS No. K93603 and UNS No. K93500 shall be in the forms of wire, rod, bar, strip, sheet plate, and tubing, while UNS No. K93050 shall be for bar products only. When test, the alloys shall comply to specified requirements for chemical composition, surface finish, temper, grain size, hardness, tensile strength, thermal expansion, transformation, and dimensions.1.1 This specification covers two iron-nickel alloys and one iron-nickel-cobalt alloy, for low thermal expansion applications. The two iron-nickel alloys, both containing nominally 36 % nickel and 64 % iron, with the conventional alloy designated by UNS No. K93603, and the free-machining alloy designated as UNS No. K93050. The iron-nickel-cobalt alloy, containing nominally 32 % nickel, 5 % cobalt and 63 % iron, is designated by UNS No. K93500. This specification defines the following product forms for UNS No. K93603 and UNS No. K93500: wire, rod, bar, strip, sheet plate, and tubing. The free-machining alloy, UNS No. K93050, is defined for bar products only. Unless otherwise indicated, all articles apply to all three alloys.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.1.3 This pertains only to the test method section, Section 13. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

This specification covers the standard for wrought copper-alloy bearing plate and bearing sheets intended for use in bridges and other structures. The plates and sheets are also proposed for use as fixed or expansion bearings where motion is slow and intermittent. Specimens shall be manufactured by hot working, cold working, and annealing. Specimens shall adhere to mechanical properties such as tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation. The plates and sheets shall be subjected to tensile, hardness, and compression tests. The specimens shall also undergo chemical analysis. When the specimens fail to conform to the specification, a retest shall be permitted.1.1 This specification establishes the requirements for wrought copper-alloy bearing plate and bearing sheets for application in bridges and other structures. Specifically, the plates and sheets are to be used for fixed or expansion bearings where the motion is slow and intermittent with pressures not exceeding 3 ksi (20 MPa).1.2 Units—The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.1.2.1 Exception—Values given in inch-pound units are the standard except for grain size, which is stated in SI units.1.3 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
