3.1 Improperly fitted footwear can cause discomfort, but more importantly, prolonged use causes disfiguration of the bone structure, bunions, corns, callouses, and finally fatigue, often leading to serious accidents. Footwear performance may also be diminished if improperly fitted.1.1 This practice covers a practical method for fitting athletic footwear. This practice is applicable to the following general flexible types of footwear: running baseball, basketball, football, and tennis.1.2 There are as many variations in shoe forms and materials available to users as there are variations in the anatomy of the user's feet. Shoe forms are different due to manufacturer's materials, type of construction, and also the type of activity anticipated in its end use.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. This specification covers polyamide (PA) butt fusion fittings for use with polyamide pipe (IPS and ISO) and tubing (CTS). This specification covers butt fusion fittings intended for use with polyamide pipe and tubing. Fittings covered by this specification are normally molded. Fittings may be machined from extruded or molded stock. 4.1 Properly sized and fitted body armor enhances the safety and performance of the wearer by providing protection while not restricting movement. Having body armor that fits well begins with appropriate and accurate measurements. The measurement guidance of this practice will facilitate consistency of measurement across the body armor industry and will help wearers understand proper measurements.4.2 Accurate measurements do not necessarily result in well-fitting armor, so this practice goes a step further by providing a description of well-fitting armor along with a personal armor fit assessment that the wearer can do for himself/herself.4.3 The measurement and fitting guidance specifically addresses officer-stated requirements for side overlap of front and back body armor panels, minimizing the armhole opening, eliminating any “V” gap (or similar) between the front and back panels, and providing vertical coverage on the front torso from approximately the “2nd uniform shirt button to 2 to 3 finger widths above duty belt.” Those requirements were considered in the development of this practice and the definition of measurements that can be consistently made for any individual.4.4 This practice describes measurements for the front, back, and sides of the wearer, in addition to girth measurements, to achieve proper sizing of front and back panels and proper fit of the complete armor.4.5 This practice can be used to train individuals on proper measurement techniques and to train wearers on proper fitting of body armor.1.1 This practice provides measurement and fit guidance for soft ballistic-resistant or stab-resistant body armor, or both, covering the torso. Proper measurement of the wearer and fitting of armor to that individual are necessary to obtain sufficient coverage of the torso and vital organs while allowing the full range of motion required for officer operations.1.2 This practice is primarily directed toward law enforcement and corrections officers and addresses measurements for and fit of concealable (normal duty) body armor worn under or over the uniform for both male and female wearers. This practice addresses only body armor composed of front and back protective panels contained within a carrier that positions and holds the panels on the torso.1.3 This practice can be used to train individuals on proper measurement techniques and to train wearers on proper fitting of body armor.1.4 Measurement guidance is provided in Section 5 of this practice.1.5 Guidance for use of a tape measure is provided in Section 6 of this practice.1.6 Guidance for use of sizing vests is provided in Section 7 of this practice.1.7 A personal armor fit assessment is provided in Section 8 for use by wearers.1.8 Units—English units are specified in this practice to be consistent with measurement units used in the United States body armor community. 4.1 This system of dimensions provides a guide for forming thermal insulation in advance of field application. Forming is done by cutting, grinding, milling, or molding, depending upon the method most suitable for the thermal insulation being fabricated. It is equally applicable for all service temperature ranges.1.1 This practice provides tables of dimensions of preformed pipe insulation that shall be used in fabricating insulation covers for use on valves, ells, tees, flanges, and vessels in the pressure range from 150 to 1500 psi (1 to 10 MPa). These tables, which are part of this standard, are published separately as the ASTM Recommended Dimensional Standards for Fabrication of Thermal Insulation Fitting Covers for NPS Piping and Vessel Lagging. In addition, the ADJC0450A tables for Short Radius (SR) and Long Radius (LR) Elbows Insulation Fitting Covers for piping are included in this practice. The tables were developed to provide dimensions for shop fabrication use in forming pipe insulation fitting covers on NPS pipe operating at high temperature and low temperature. The tables also include dimensions for use in forming thermal insulation into curved segments, and lagging, for application on vessels. This practice does not apply to reflective-type insulation, insulation on screwed elbows, Short Radius (SR) and Long Radius (LR) Elbows Fitting Covers for tubing, dutchman (extended leg) insulation fitting covers, double-layered staggered-joint pipe insulation fitting covers, flexible preformed pipe-tube elastomeric foam fitting covers in accordance with Specification C534/C534M or polyolefin foam fitting covers in accordance with Specification C1427.1.1.1 Refer to Guide C1710 when referring to insulation materials for fabrication of preformed flexible closed cell insulated 90° elbows, tees, or similar products.1.2 This practice does not specify fabrication methods. Thermal insulation for fitting covers is formed by numerous fabrication methods. In general, insulations are cut by circular or band saws, shaped by grinders or millers, or molded/preformed. Each method has certain advantages and disadvantages, depending upon the material to be formed, number of cuts required, material waste permissible, and quantity of fittings being produced. Fitting parts are assembled using adhesives and fabrication cements applied using dip pots, rollers, doctor blades, brush, or trowel, depending upon the materials being used. Any specification of the fabrication techniques is beyond the scope of this standard.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. In a few parts of this practice, the values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. This specification covers mechanical cold expansion insert fitting with compression sleeve for cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) tubing. Fittings shall be made from specific copper alloy for machined brass fittings, forged brass fittings, and compression sleeves.
