5.1 Resiliency may be used to control the quality of many TRMs. Resiliency may be indicative of a TRM's ability to retain original configuration after exposure to the stresses which may be exerted during manufacture, shipping, and installation. Resiliency is not generally indicative of field performance.5.2 The resiliency of TRMs may vary considerably depending on the pressure applied to the specimen during loading cycles. To minimize variation, specific sample size and applied pressure are indicated in this test method to ensure all results are comparable.5.3 To determine the effect of different pressure loadings on the final thickness of TRMs, use this test method.5.4 This test method may be used for acceptance testing of commercial shipments of TRMs, but caution is advised since information on between-laboratory precision is incomplete. Comparative tests in accordance with 5.4.1 may be advisable.5.4.1 In a case of a dispute arising from differences in reported test results when using this test method for acceptance testing of commercial shipments, the purchaser and the supplier should conduct comparative tests to determine if there is a statistical bias between their laboratories. Competent statistical assistance is recommended for the investigation of bias. As a minimum, the two parties should take a group of test specimens that are as homogeneous as possible and that are formed from a lot of material of the type in question. The test specimens should be randomly assigned in equal numbers to each laboratory for testing. The average results from the two laboratories should be compared using Student's t-test for unpaired data and an acceptable probability level chosen by the two begun. If bias is found, either its cause must corrected, or the purchaser and be found and interpret future tests in supplier must agree to the light of the known bias.NOTE 1: The user should be aware that the compressibility of the materials, their rebound characteristics, and the like will also be affected by the thickness of the TRMs following the time when they are rolled up on rolls shipped and stored.1.1 This test method covers the resiliency or recovery of turf reinforcement mats (TRMs) after they have been subjected to three cycles of loading at 689 kPa [100 psi] for 1 min/per cycle.1.2 This test method does not provide resiliency values for TRMs under variable normal compressive stresses. This test method determines nominal resiliency.1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system are not necessarily exact equivalents; therefore, to ensure conformance with the standard, each system shall be used independently of the other, and values from the two systems shall not be combined.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

5.1 This test method is used to determine if the turf reinforcement mat meets specifications for mass per unit area. This test method can be used for quality control to determine specimen conformance. This measurement allows for a simple control of the delivered material by a comparison of the mass per unit area of the delivered material and the specified mass per unit area.5.2 The procedure in this test method may be used for acceptance testing of commercial shipments, but caution is advised since information about between-laboratory precision is incomplete. Comparative tests in accordance with 5.2.1 are advisable.5.2.1 In case of a dispute arising from differences in reported test results when using the procedures in this test method for acceptance testing of commercial shipments, the purchaser and the manufacturer should conduct comparative tests to determine if there is a statistical bias between their laboratories. Competent statistical assistance is recommended for the investigation of bias. 5.1 Hydration is a critical aspect of GCCM installation. GCCM installations are often hydrated with excess water to ensure that a saturated condition exists. Therefore, it is not generally possible to monitor and control exactly the water addition that absorbs and hydrates the cementitious materials due the practical methods of hydration in use.5.2 It is important to be able to distinguish the quality of cementitious material used in applications for GCCMs. A measurement of compressive strength properties of the cementitious material is often an accepted method to provide a measure of the cement strength and quality. The compressive strength properties will vary with the water/cementitious material ratio and, therefore, it is necessary to determine a practical value that approximates in-use hydration and not a water/cementitious material ratio that simply provides the maximum properties but cannot be expected as representative of actual use conditions.5.3 The compressive strength of the cementitious material can be affected by both over and under hydration.5.4 This method identifies a means to obtain a water/cementitious material ratio representative of that obtained by proper hydration of GCCMs to allow replication for laboratory compressive strength testing for use by GCCM designers, inspectors, and installers.1.1 The purpose of the proposed test method is to obtain a water/cementitious material ratio that allows for a practical measurement of the compressive strength of the cementitious material contained within a geosynthetic cementitious composite mat (GCCM). This water/cementitious material ratio should be generally representative of that achieved practically upon the hydration of a GCCM. Because GCCM materials do not involve mixing or the use of exact water hydration methods when employed in the field, this method is necessary to provide a quantitative estimate of the water/cementitious material ratio.1.2 This procedure determines the water/cementitious material ratio for a properly hydrated GCCM, which is then used to create cube or cylinder specimens for compressive strength testing as per the appropriate referenced ASTM test methods. Compressive strength results will then be representative of the strength of the inherent cementitious material found in the GCCM after normal GCCM hydration.1.3 The values in SI units are to be regarded as standard. Values in inch-pound units are in parentheses for information.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use.

This specification covers the standard guide for welded deformed steel bar mats for concrete reinforcement. Mats should be capable of withstanding static load exerted perpendicular to the plane of the mat tending to separate the bars with no apparent loosening when applied to one intersection of the connected bars. Tension tests shall be performed on the specimen to determine the conformance to reference test materials. Also, test of connections against separation shall be performed on an assembled mat by placing blocks under a deformed bar in the upper layer and applying the prescribed load upon the bar in the lower layer.1.1 This specification covers material in mat (or sheet) form fabricated from deformed steel bars to be used for the reinforcement of concrete. Mats are made from two layers of bars that are assembled by welding the intersections at right angles to each other.1.2 This specification is applicable for orders in either inch-pound units (as Specification A184) or SI units (as Specification A184M).1.3 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with this specification.1.4 The text of this specification references notes and footnotes that provide explanatory material. These notes and footnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) shall not be considered as requirements of the specification.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

5.1 The compression behavior test for TRMs is intended to be an index test. It is anticipated that the results of the compression behavior test will be used to evaluate product. The results of the analyses also may be used to compare the relative compressive yield points of materials that exhibit a detectable compressive yield point. It is anticipated that this test will be used for quality control testing to evaluate uniformity and consistency within a lot or between lots where sample geometry factors, for example, thickness, or materials may have changed.NOTE 1: This is a one-dimensional test for compressive loading of a TRM in one plane.5.1.1 The compressive yield point of TRMs may be evaluated from the stress/strain relationship. Many materials exhibit compressive deformation but may not show a distinct compressive yield point.5.2 This test method can be used to evaluate the short-term stress/strain behavior of TRMs under compressive stress while loaded at a constant rate of deformation.5.3 This test method may be used for acceptance testing of commercial shipments of TRMs but caution is advised because interlaboratory testing is incomplete.5.3.1 In the case of a dispute arising from differences in reported test results when using this test method for acceptance testing of commercial shipments, the purchaser and the supplier should conduct comparative tests to determine if there is statistical bias between their laboratories. Competent statistical assistance is recommended for the investigations of bias. As a minimum, two parties should take a group of test specimens from material shipped to project. The test specimens then should be assigned randomly in equal numbers to each laboratory for testing. The average results from the two laboratories should be compared using the Student's t-test for unpaired data and an acceptable probability level chosen by the two parties before the testing is begun. If bias is found, either its cause must be found and corrected, or the purchaser and supplier must agree to interpret future test results in the light of the known bias.1.1 This test method establishes the procedures for evaluation of the deformations of a turf reinforcement mat (TRM) under short-term compressive loading. This test method is strictly an index test method to be used to verify the compressive strength consistency of a given manufactured geosynthetic. Results from this test method should not be considered as an indication of actual or long-term performance of the TRM in field applications.1.2 Since these TRMs experience multidirectional compressive loadings in the field, this test method will not show actual field performance and should not be used for this specific objective. The evaluation of the results also should recognize that the determination of the short-term single plane compressive behavior of geosynthetics does not reflect the installed performance of TRMs and, therefore, should not be used as the only method of product or performance specification.1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard.
