This specification covers the requirements for magnesium oxide (MgO) and aluminum oxide (Al2O3) powders and crushable insulators used to manufacture metal-sheathed platinum resistance thermometers (PRTs), noble metal thermocouples, base metal thermocouples, and their respective cables. The following test shall be performed to meet the requirements specified: breaking force test; wet chemical analysis; fusion calorimetric analysis; quantitative analysis; and density determination.1.1 This specification covers the requirements for magnesium oxide (MgO) and aluminum oxide (Al2O3) powders and crushable insulators used to manufacture base metal thermocouples, metal-sheathed platinum resistance thermometers (PRTs), noble metal thermocouples, and their respective cables.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard.
