This specification sets purity grade levels, physical attributes, analytical methods, and packaging of three grades of pure unalloyed aluminum source materials for electronic thin film applications such as evaporation sources and sputtering targets. The impurity levels should be analyzed using the proposed method and should be within the specified range for each grade.1.1 This specification covers pure aluminum metal (unalloyed) for use in evaporation sources and sputtering targets. This material is intended as a raw material for electronic applications. The material is used as-supplied in some cases (for example, as e-beam evaporation sources). In other instances it may be remelted, alloyed, cast and processed by the purchaser to make finished products (for example, sputtering targets).1.2 This specification sets purity grade levels, physical attributes, analytical methods, and packaging.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.

Please refer to the following ASTM standards for information regarding powdered metal materials and magnetic components: Specifications A811, A839, and A904.1.5 This specification does not cover material that contains constituent elements sufficient to increase the carbon content above 0.0060 % or to decrease the iron content below 99.9 %. Refer to Specification A848 for properties of low carbon magnetic iron.1.6 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to customary (cgs-emu and inch-pound) units which are provided for information only and are not considered standard.1.6.1 There are selected values presented in two units, both of which are acceptable SI units. These are differentiated by the word “or,” as in “g/cm3, or, (kg/m3).”1.7 Acceptance values may be generated by an independent party. This specification accepts reports from producers or intermediate suppliers.1.8 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.9 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

5.1 This test method can be used for research or for quality control to determine the dimer ratio of Pure MDI.5.2 Uretidinedione begins forming in Pure MDI with the rate of formation increasing with increasing temperature. High levels can affect the appearance of Pure MDI and the quality of products made from it.1.1 This test method determines the ratio of the infrared absorbance of uretidinedione (dimer) in methylene-4,4’- di(phenylisocyanate) to an infrared absorbance at a reference wavelength within the same material. It is applicable to monomeric methylene-di(phenylisocyanate), or “Pure MDI,” containing 95 % or greater methylene-4,4’-di(phenylisocyanate).1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.NOTE 1: There is no known ISO equivalent to this standard.

4.1 This guide recommends the water quality required for the electronics and microelectronics industries. High-purity water is required to prevent contamination of products during manufacture, since contamination can lead to an unacceptable, low yield of electronic devices.4.2 The range of water purity is defined in accordance with the manufacturing process. The types of ultra-pure water are defined with respect to device line width. In all cases, the water-quality recommendations apply at the point of distribution.4.3 The limits on the impurities are related to current contamination specifications and to available analytical methods (either performed in a suitable clean laboratory or by on-line instrumentation). On-line and off-line methods are used in accordance with current industry practice. Concentration of the sample may be required to measure the impurities at the levels indicated in Table 1.(A) The user should be advised that analytical data often are instrument dependent and technique dependent. Thus, the numbers in Table 1 are only guidelines. This table will be revised whenever the semiconductor industry develops new linewidths, thereby keeping the guidelines current.(B) Values shown in Type E-1.3 are a result of aligning ITRS risk factors of known contaminates to the production processes found in current semiconductor processing for the linewidth of interest and may differ in a few cases to those found in Type E-1.2. Users who wish to use the higher numbers for Type E-1.2 water should feel free to do so.All values are equal to or less than with the exception of Resistivity.(C) Boron is monitored only as an operational parameter for monitoring the ion-exchange beds.1.1 This guide provides recommendations for water quality related to electronics and semiconductor-industry manufacturing. Seven classifications of water are described, including water for line widths as low as 0.032 μm. In all cases, the recommendations are for water at the point of distribution (POD).1.2 Water is used for washing and rinsing of semiconductor components during manufacture. Water is also used for cleaning and etching operations, making steam for oxidation of silicon surfaces, preparing photomasks, and depositing luminescent materials. Other applications are in the development and fabrication of solid-state devices, thin-film devices, communication lasers, light-emitting diodes, photo-detectors, printed circuits, memory devices, vacuum-tube devices, or electrolytic devices.1.3 Users needing water qualities different from those described here should consult other water standards, such as Specification D1193 and Guide D5196.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

5.1 This test method is suitable for setting specification, for use as an internal quality control tool, and for use in development or research work on industrial aromatic hydrocarbons and related materials. In addition to the pure liquid chemicals for which expansion functions are known, it may also be used for liquids for which temperature expansion data are not available, or for impure liquid chemicals if certain limitations are observed. Information derived from this test can be used to describe the relationship between weight and volume.1.1 This test method describes a simplified procedure for the measurement of density or relative density of pure liquid chemicals for which accurate temperature expansion functions are known. It is restricted to liquids having vapor pressures not exceeding 79 993 Pascal (0.800 bar, 600 mm Hg (0.789 atm) at the equilibration temperature, and having viscosities not exceeding 15 cSt at 20°C.1.2 Means are provided for reporting results in the following units:Density g/cm3 at 20°CDensity g/mL at 20°CRelative density 20°C/4°CRelative density 15.56°C/15.56°CNOTE 1: This test method is based on the old definition of  1 L = 1.000028 dm3 (1 mL = 1.000028 cm3). In 1964 the General Conference on Weights and Measures withdrew this definition of the litre and declared that the word “litre” was a special name for the cubic decimetre, thus making 1 mL = 1 cm3 exactly.NOTE 2: An alternative method for determining relative density of pure liquid chemicals is Test Method D4052.1.3 In determining the conformance of the test results using this method to applicable specifications, results shall be rounded off in accordance with the rounding-off method of Practice E29.1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Specific hazard statements are given in Section 8, Hazards.1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
