This specification covers resilient connectors between reinforced concrete manhole structures, pipes, and laterals. Resilient materials for connectors and filler rings shall be manufactured from natural or synthetic rubber and shall conform to the prescribed requirements. Mechanical devices shall be made from a material or materials in combination that will ensure durability, strength, resistance to corrosion, and have properties that will ensure continued resistance to leakage. The design of pipe connectors and pipe stubs are specified. 5.1 The ability of a substrate surface to readily absorb water is a key indicator in determining how to correctly install many types of flooring adhesives, primers, self-leveling underlayments, and other products. Several flooring industry publications such as CRI’s Carpet Installation Standard, RFCI’s Recommended Installation Practice for Homogenous Sheet Flooring, Fully-Adhered, as well as most flooring, adhesive, primer, and underlayment manufacturers reference substrate surface porosity criteria in their application instructions since this directly impacts the spread rate of directly applied material, the open time, and other critical installation factors.5.2 Installing flooring products over low or non-absorptive (sometimes referred to as “non-porous”) substrates such as densely machine-troweled concrete, mature and well-hydrated concrete, existing resilient flooring, polymer terrazzo and others may require adjustments to the surface preparation method or product selection to ensure a successful installation.5.3 Use this practice to obtain a qualitative assessment of substrate water absorption (porosity) and whether or not that substrate should be regarded as porous/absorptive or non-porous/non-absorptive as these terms relate to the installation of resilient floor coverings, adhesives, self-leveling underlayments, primers, and other products. This practice will produce results directly applicable to determining appropriate surface preparation requirements in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications, but it is in no way meant to replace published manufacturer’s literature regarding the determination of substrate water absorption (porosity) and the impact such has, if any, on substrate preparation requirements and on the installation of their respective materials.5.4 Substrates that evidence immediate absorption, are chalky or dusty, or have varying degrees of absorption may require priming or other additional surface preparation prior to subsequent installations.5.5 Substrates that evidence no absorption may indicate the presence of a contaminant that may negatively impact proper adhesion. In such cases, bond tests performed in accordance with the particular manufacturer’s established guidelines are strongly recommended.5.6 The size, shape, and color of the water drop may indicate the presence of contaminants or other special circumstances that may require discussion with the manufacturer of the slab covering to be installed.5.7 Some surfaces such as concrete can become denser and less porous/less absorptive over time as the material continues to gain strength and densify. The results obtained reflect only the conditions of the substrate at the time and location of the test(s).1.1 This practice covers the determination of whether or not a substrate surface, in lieu of written instruction from a product manufacturer, is considered porous or non-porous prior to the installation of resilient flooring materials.1.2 Although carpet tiles, carpet, wood flooring, coatings, films, paints, self-leveling and trowel-grade underlayments, primers, and other associated products are not specifically intended to be included in the category of resilient floor coverings, the procedures included in this practice may be useful for assessing the substrate water absorption for substrates to receive such materials.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. This guide suggests methodology for cleaning tests. Soil/substrate combinations are generally designed to be analogous to soiled surfaces commonly encountered. This methodology can be used with most soil/substrate combinations. Some example test methods that have worked well in other labs are provided in the annexes. There is no requirement for using the soils listed in the annexes. It is the responsibility of the user to select the appropriate battery of tests for the desired end results. The results of tests based on this guide are regarded as diagnostic screening values useful in formulation studies, quality control, and ingredient raw material qualification. This guide is intended to allow a choice in test conditions and soil/substrate combinations appropriate to the evaluation at hand. For interlaboratory comparisons, exact test conditions must be established before test results are compared. This guide is applicable to testing all types of multipurpose household cleaners, whether the detergent is prepared by dissolving a soluble powder, a dilutable liquid, or is a pre-diluted product. It may also be useful for evaluation of products or conditions normally associated with industrial or institutional cleaners.1.1 This guide covers the evaluation of the cleaning per- formance of products intended for use on resilient flooring or washable walls. Such evaluations specifically exclude windows, mirrors, carpets, ceramic tiles, and laminated counter tops. This guide provides techniques for soiling, cleaning, and evaluating performance of detergent systems under con- trolled, but practical, hard-surface cleaning conditions. 1.2 Such systems include any detergent intended for clean- ing hard surfaces such as resilient flooring, washable wall surfaces, and other hard surfaces, but excluding glass, ceramic, or other glossy surfaces. This practice covers the procedure for determining the acceptability of concrete floors for the installation of resilient flooring. It also includes suggestions for ensuring that the constructed concrete floor is acceptable for such installations but does not cover tests for adequacy of the concrete floor to perform structural requirements. A permanent, effective moisture vapor retarder, of the specified thickness and permeance, is required under all on- or below-grade concrete floors. Concrete floors for resilient floorings should be permanently dry, clean, smooth, structurally sound, and free of substances that may prevent adhesive bonding. Surface cracks, grooves, depression, control joints or other non-moving joints, and other irregularities should be filled or smoothed with latex patching or a recommended underlayment compound. The surface of the floor should be cleaned by scraping, brushing, vacuuming, or any other method. All concrete slabs should be tested for moisture regardless of age or grade level while all concrete floors should be tested for pH before installing resilient flooring.1.1 This practice covers the determination of the acceptability of a concrete floor for the installation of resilient flooring.1.2 This practice includes suggestions for the construction of a concrete floor to ensure its acceptability for installation of resilient flooring.1.3 This practice does not cover the adequacy of the concrete floor to perform its structural requirements.1.4 This practice covers the necessary preparation of concrete floors prior to the installation of resilient flooring.1.5 This practice does not supersede in any manner the resilient flooring or adhesive manufacturer's written instructions. 5.1 Resilient modulus can be used in the evaluation of materials quality and as input for pavement design, evaluation, and analysis. With this method, the effects of temperature and load on resilient modulus can also be investigated. This specification covers the design, material, and minimum performance requirements of resilient connectors used for connections between reinforced concrete manhole structures and corrugated high density polyethylene drainage pipes. These connectors are designed to provide a positive seal between the pipe and manholes or other structures subjected to internal and external hydrostatic pressures. The design of the connector shall be such that positive seal is accomplished at two locations: (1) between the connector and the wall of the manhole or structure and (2) between the connector and the pipe. 4.1 The final appearance of an installed floor depends upon several factors. These include but are not limited to size and squareness in the case of tiles/planks, the quality of joint cut, the quality and preparation of the subfloor and the skill of the installer. Long term appearance of the installed floor is also dependent on but not limited to the ability of the tile/plank to resist shrinkage due to internal stress relief.
