This specification covers cold-rolled, high-carbon strip. The strip shall be furnished cold rolled spheroidized annealed, soft annealed, intermediate hardness, or full hard, as specified. The heat or cast analysis shall conform to that specified requirement. Hardness test and bend test shall be made to conform to the requirements specified.1.1 This specification covers cold-rolled, high-carbon strip in coils or cut lengths. Strip is classified as product that is 0.3000 in. [7.6 mm] or less in thickness and over 1/2 to 2315/16 in. [12.5 to 600 mm] in width, inclusive. Strip tolerance products may be available in widths wider than 2315/16 in. (600 mm) by agreement between purchaser and supplier; however, such products are technically classified as cold-rolled sheet. The maximum of the specified carbon range is over 0.25 to 1.35 %, inclusive. It is furnished in the following types as specified:1.1.1 Soft spheroidized annealed high-carbon steel is intended for applications requiring maximum cold forming. It is normally produced to give the lowest maximum Rockwell hardness for each grade.1.1.2 Soft annealed high-carbon steel is intended for applications requiring moderate cold forming. It is produced to a maximum Rockwell hardness.1.1.3 Intermediate hardness high-carbon steel is intended for applications where cold forming is slight or a stiff, springy product is needed, or both. It is produced to specified Rockwell hardness ranges, the maximum being higher than obtained for the annealed type.1.1.4 Full hard high-carbon steel is intended for flat applications. It is produced to minimum Rockwell hardness requirements, which vary with grade, microstructure and gauge. Full hard can be produced with either a pearlitic or spheroidized microstructure or a mixture of both. The minimum hardness should be established between the consumer and the producer.1.2 This specification is applicable for orders in either inch-pound units or SI units.1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.1.4 The tolerances in this specification are different than those in Specification A568/A568M and Specification A109/A109M.1.5 For the purpose of determining conformance with this specification, values shall be rounded to the nearest unit in the right hand place of figures used in expressing the limiting values in accordance with the rounding method of Practice E29.1.6 This specification is expressed in both inch-pound units and SI units. However, unless the order specifies the applicable “M” specification designation (SI units), the material shall be furnished to inch-pound units. The metric portions of the tables herein list permissible variations in dimensions and mass (see Note 1) in SI (metric) units. The values listed are not exact conversions of the values listed in the inch-pound tables but instead are rounded or rationalized values. Conformance to SI tolerances is mandatory when the “M” specification is used.NOTE 1: The term weight is used when inch-pound units are the standard. However, under SI the preferred term is mass.1.7 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

This specification covers UNS R60001, R60802, R60804, and R60901 wrought zirconium and zirconium alloy bars, rods, and wires. All material grades covered should conform to the required chemical composition requirements. Elements that are intentionally added to the melt should be identified, analyzed and reported in the chemical analysis. The zirconium and zirconium alloys should be made from ingots produced by vacuum or plasma arc melting, vacuum electron-beam melting, a combination of the three methods, or other melting processes conventionally used for reactive metals. All processes should be performed in furnaces specifically for reactive metals. Mill products included in this specification should be formed with conventional extrusion, forging, or rolling equipment that is used in primary ferrous and nonferrous plants. The cold worked and annealed materials should be in fully annealed condition unless otherwise specified. Hot worked shapes should be furnished in not descaled, mechanically descaled, or mechanically descaled and pickled finish, while cold-worked shapes should be furnished in cold-worked, ground, or pickled finish.1.1 This specification covers four grades of wrought zirconium and zirconium alloy bars, rod, and wire as follows:1.1.1 R60001—Unalloyed grade,1.1.2 R60802—Zirconium-Tin alloy (Zircaloy 2),1.1.3 R60804—Zirconium-Tin alloy (Zircaloy 4), and1.1.4 R60901—Zirconium-Niobium alloy.1.2 Unless a single unit is used, for example corrosion mass gain in mg/dm2, the values stated in either inch-pound or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore each system must be used independently of the other. SI values cannot be mixed with inch-pound values.1.3 The following precautionary caveat pertains only to the test method portions of this specification. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

5.1 Flat-rolled electrical steel master coils are usually slit into narrower coils. Usually these slit coils are punched or sheared into laminations of various shapes. The laminations are then uniformly stacked to become the cores of magnetic devices such as motors and transformers. Stacking of many laminations exhibiting excessive taper causes assembly problems and poor appearance. Nonuniform stack lengths in motors cause imbalance and noise. When the laminations are interleaved in transformers, taper causes air spaces within the core resulting in increased noise, increased exciting current, and higher core loss.1.1 This test method provides a procedure for measuring edge taper and crown of flat-rolled electrical steel coils as produced at the steel mill.1.2 The values and equations stated in customary (cgs-emu and inch-pound) units or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within this standard, the SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with this standard.1.3 The following material specifications include requirements for edge taper or crown: A677, A683, A726, A876, and A1086. Specification A840 also includes requirements for edge taper or crown, but it has been withdrawn and reference to it is included for historical purposes.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
