5.1 The primary advantage of RUS is its ability of making numerous measurements in a single test. In addition, it can examine rough ground parts. It requires little sample preparation, no couplants, and generally will work with soiled items; however, it has limited capability with soft materials. Soft metals, polymers, rubbers, and wood parts must be considered on a case by case basis.1.1 This guide describes a procedure for detecting defects in metallic and non-metallic parts using the resonant ultrasound spectroscopy method. The procedure is intended for use with instruments capable of exciting and recording whole body resonant states within parts which exhibit acoustical or ultrasonic ringing. It is used to distinguish acceptable parts from those containing defects, such as cracks, voids, chips, density defects, tempering changes, and dimensional variations that are closely correlated with the parts' mechanical system dynamic response.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

This specification covers the requirements for material certifications, specifically including materials under the jurisdiction of Committee E29. It defines terminology related thereto, including melt mill, traceability, heat number vs. lot number, certificate of compliance, and specifies the information to be included on material certifications. Hence the document is an authoritative reference to dispel the incorrect interpretations put forth by unknowledgeable segments of the metals industry.1.1 This specification covers the requirements for material certifications, specifically including materials under the jurisdiction of Committee E29, as well as defining terminology related thereto.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard.

This specification covers the materials, dimensional tolerances, constructions, and mechanical properties for standard metallic implantable strands and cables. Materials shall be manufactured using equivalent size wires in the cold-worked and stress-relieved or annealed condition. Standard strand constructions shall be 1×3, 1×7, and 1×19 strand. Cabling constructions shall be 7×7 and 7×19 cable. Mechanical requirements include ultimate tensile strength and minimum breaking force. Strand or cable shall have no welds or splices, free of imperfections, and shall conform to dimensions, surface finish, and tolerances indicated in this specification.1.1 This specification covers the materials, dimensional tolerances, constructions, and mechanical properties for standard metallic implantable strands and cables.1.2 This specification is intended to assist in the development of specific strand and cable specifications. It is particularly appropriate for high load bearing applications. It is not intended however, to address all of the possible variations in construction, material, or properties.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

5.1 The shear and bending fatigue tests are used to determine the effect of variations in material, geometry, surface condition, stress, and so forth, on the fatigue resistance of coated metallic materials subjected to direct stress for up to 107 cycles. These tests may be used as a relative guide to the selection of coated materials for service under condition of repeated stress.5.2 In order that such basic fatigue data be comparable, reproducible, and can be correlated among laboratories, it is essential that uniform fatigue practices be established.5.3 The results of the fatigue test may be used for basic material property design. Actual components should not be tested using these test methods.1.1 This test method covers the procedure for determining the shear and bending fatigue performance of calcium phosphate coatings and of porous and nonporous metallic coatings and for determining the bending fatigue performance of metallic coatings over sprayed with calcium phosphate. This test method has been established based on plasma-sprayed titanium and plasma-sprayed hydroxylapatite coatings. The efficacy of this test method for other coatings has not been established. In the shear fatigue mode, this test method evaluates the adhesive and cohesive properties of the coating on a metallic substrate. In the bending fatigue mode, this test method evaluates both the adhesion of the coating as well as the effects that the coating may have on the substrate material. These methods are limited to testing in air at ambient temperature. These test methods are not intended for application in fatigue tests of components or devices; however, the test method which most closely replicates the actual loading configuration is preferred.1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use.

4.1 The requirements expressed in this practice are intended to control the quality of the radiographic images, to produce satisfactory and consistent results, and are not intended for controlling the acceptability or quality of materials or products.1.1 This practice2 provides a uniform procedure for radiographic examination of metallic castings using radiographic film as the recording medium.1.2 This standard addresses the achievement of, or protocols for achieving, common or practical levels of radiographic coverage for castings, to detect primarily volumetric discontinuities to sensitivity levels measured by nominated image quality indicators. All departures, including alternate means or methods to increase coverage, or address challenges of detecting non-volumetric planar-type discontinuities, shall be agreed upon between the purchaser and supplier and shall consider Appendix X1 and Appendix X2.1.3 The radiographic techniques stated herein provide adequate assurance for defect detectability; however, it is recognized that, for special applications, specific techniques using more or less stringent requirements may be required than those specified. In these cases, the use of alternate radiographic techniques shall be as agreed upon between purchaser and supplier (also see Section 5).1.4 Units—The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system are not necessarily exact equivalents; therefore, to ensure conformance with the standard, each system shall be used independently of the other, and values from the two systems shall not be combined.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
