4.1 This guide provides quantitative data in the form of oil recovery rates, throughput efficiencies, and oil recovery efficiencies under controlled test conditions. The data can be used for evaluating design characteristics of a particular spill removal device or as a means of comparing two or more devices. Caution must be exercised whenever test data are used to predict performance in actual spill situations as the uncontrolled environmental conditions that affect performance in the field are rarely identical to conditions in the test tank. Other variables such as mechanical reliability, presence of debris, ease of repair, ease of deployment, required operator training, operator fatigue, seaworthiness, and transportability also affect performance in an actual spill but are not measured by this guide. These variables should be considered along with the test data when making comparisons or evaluations of spill removal devices.1.1 This standard provides a guide for determining performance parameters of full-scale oil spill removal devices in recovering floating oil when tested in controlled environments.1.2 This guide involves the use of specific test oils that may be considered hazardous materials after testing is completed. It is the responsibility of the user of this guide to procure and abide by the necessary permits for disposal of the used test oil.1.3 Units—The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

This specification covers establishes requirements for coextruded crosslinked polyethylene multi-layer pressure tubing with a continuously welded aluminum tube construction between inner and outer layers of plastic. The inner and outer crosslinked polyethylene layers are bonded to the aluminum by a melt adhesive. The tubing is outside diameter controlled and made in one standard dimension ratio, SDR9 and is intended to be used for hot and cold water conveyance in applications up to a certain temperature. The tubing is intended for use in potable water distribution systems for residential and commercial applications, water service, hydronic radiant heating (HRH), radiant panel heating, baseboard, and snow melt systems. PEX-AL-PEX tubing is comprised of one metallic layer, two layers of polymeric adhesive and two-layers of crosslinked polyethylene. The metallic layer is aluminum and the cross-linked polyethylene plastics used to make the PEX layers of the PEX-AL-PEX tubing shall be made from virgin resin. Different tests and measurements shall be conducted in order to determine the following properties: out-of-roundness, pipe wall thickness, outer and inner PEX layer thickness, adhesion, burst pressure, sustained pressure, gel content, and apparent ring tensile strength. The tubing shall be free of visible cracks, blisters, holes, foreign inclusions and other known injurious defects. The tubing shall be as uniform as practical in color, opacity, density and other physical properties.1.1 This specification covers establishes requirements for coextruded crosslinked polyethylene multi-layer pressure tubing with a continuously welded aluminum tube construction between inner and outer layers of plastic. The inner and outer crosslinked polyethylene layers are bonded to the aluminum by a melt adhesive. The tubing is outside diameter controlled and made in one standard dimension ratio, SDR9 and is intended to be used for hot and cold water conveyance in applications up to 180°F (82.2°C). Included in this specification is a system of nomenclature for crosslinked polyethylene-aluminum-crosslinked polyethylene (PEX-AL-PEX) tubes, and the requirements and test methods for materials, dimensions of component layers and the finished tubing, layer adhesion test, weld strength, short-term burst pressure, long-term sustained pressure and marking requirements. The tubing covered by this specification is intended for use in potable water distribution systems for residential and commercial applications, water service, hydronic radiant heating (HRH), radiant panel heating, baseboard, and snow melt systems. 1.2 This specification covers only plastic-metal-plastic multi-layer tubes incorporating a continuous welded aluminum tube. Tubing consisting of metallic layers not welded together is outside the scope of this specification. 1.3 Units—The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.4 Specifications for connectors for use with pipe meeting the requirements of this specification are given in Annex A1. 1.5 The following precautionary caveat pertains only to the test method portion, Section 9, of this specification. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory requirements prior to use.

5.1 This test method is used to ascertain whether or not materials meet specifications for plutonium concentration or plutonium mass fraction.5.1.1 The materials (nuclear grade plutonium nitrate solutions, plutonium metal, plutonium oxide powder, and mixed oxide and carbide powders and pellets) to which this test method applies are subject to nuclear safeguards regulations governing their possession and use. However, adherence to this test method does not automatically guarantee regulatory acceptance of the resulting safeguards measurements. It remains the sole responsibility of the user of this test method to ensure that its application to safeguards has the approval of the proper regulatory authorities.5.1.2 When used in conjunction with appropriate certified reference materials (CRMs), this test method can demonstrate traceability to the international measurements system (SI).5.2 Fitness for Purpose of Safeguards and Nuclear Safety Application—Methods intended for use in safeguards and nuclear safety applications shall meet the requirements specified by Guide C1068 for use in such applications.5.3 A chemical calibration of the coulometer is necessary for accurate results.FIG. 1 Example of a Cell Design Used at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL)1.1 This test method covers the determination of milligram quantities of plutonium in unirradiated uranium-plutonium mixed oxide having a U/Pu ratio range of 0.1 to 10. This test method is also applicable to plutonium metal, plutonium oxide, uranium-plutonium mixed carbide, various plutonium compounds including fluoride and chloride salts, and plutonium solutions.1.2 The recommended amount of plutonium for each aliquant in the coulometric analysis is 5 mg to 10 mg. Precision worsens for lower amounts of plutonium, and elapsed time of electrolysis becomes impractical for higher amounts of plutonium.1.3 The quantity values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. The quantity values with non-SI units are given in parentheses for information only.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Specific precautionary statements are given in Section 9.1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
