4.1 This guide describes the use of herding agents for the purpose of in-situ burning. It is intended to aid decision-makers and spill-responders in contingency planning, spill response, and training, and to aid manufacturers in developing effective herding agents.4.2 This guide is not intended as a detailed operational manual for the use of herding agents or the burning of spilled oil.1.1 This guide relates to the use of herding agents in conjunction with in-situ burning of spilled oil.1.1.1 Although the focus is on the use of herders in conjunction with in-situ burning, herders may also be used to aid in mechanical recovery of spilled oil.1.2 The purpose of this guide is to provide information that will enable oil-spill responders to select the appropriate techniques and devices to successfully collect and ignite oil spilled on water.1.3 The focus of this guide is on the in-situ combustion of marine oil spills in drift ice conditions. The use of herding agents on calmer ice-free water is also possible.1.4 This guide is one of several related to in-situ burning. Other standards cover specifications for fire-containment booms and the environmental and operational considerations for burning.1.5 The storage, transport, and use of herding agents may be subject to regulations that will vary according to the jurisdiction. While guidance of a general nature is provided in this document, users of this guide should determine regulations that apply to their situation.1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.7 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

4.1 This guide establishes test conditions that will provide a measured oil recovery rate and efficiency for a skimmer operating in drift ice.4.2 End users need a procedure to quantify optimum performance data for planning and selection of equipment.4.3 The procedure in this guide will assist in verifying and accurately reporting skimmer system performance.4.4 Tests will be conducted under well documented conditions and provide repeatable results. Other detailed testing and collection of skimmer performance data are covered under existing standards (see Guide F631 and Test Method F2709).1.1 This guide defines a procedure and measurement criteria to quantify the recovery rate and efficiency of a stationary skimmer system in drift ice conditions.1.2 The suggested procedure and test parameters are intended to provide conditions typical of relatively sparse drift ice and relatively dense drift ice coverage.1.3 It is accepted that the recovery rate as determined by this guide will not likely be achievable under actual conditions of a spill. The procedure in this guide does not account for such issues as changing recovery conditions, number of daylight hours, operator downtime, less than ideal control of skimmer settings, and inclement weather.1.4 The procedure in this guide involves the use of specific test oils that may be considered hazardous materials. It is the responsibility of the user of this guide to procure and abide by necessary permits and regulations for the use and disposal of test oil.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

This specification covers single tank, automatic rack type, hot water sanitizing commercial dishwashing machines. Covered by this specification are dishwashing machines of various types (Types I and II based on feed direction, from right or left, respectively), styles (Styles 1-3 based on method of heating: steam, electric, or gas), classes (Classes A-D based on heat source: injector, heat exchange coil, natural gas, or LP gas), sizes, and capacities. Components comprising the dishwashing machine shall be manufactured from corrosion-resistant steel (tank, scrap trays or strainers, overflow drain, access door/s, and legs), corrosion-resisting materials (conveyor, piping and fittings, valves, and spray assemblies), nickel-copper alloys, and plastics. Pump casings shall be of cast iron or corrosion-resisting material. When specified, the dishwashing machine assembly may include a final rinse booster, detergent feeder, and rinse agent feeder. The dishwashing machine shall be tested for performance standards compliance and noise level as well as for operational, leakage, and performance profile requirements. All tests shall comply with the requirements specified.1.1 This specification covers single tank, automatic rack type, commercial dishwashing machines.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.1.3 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
