This specification covers foaming agents specifically formulated for making preformed foam for use in the production of cellular concrete. The function of this specification is to provide the means for evaluating the performance of a specific foaming agent. The test batch shall conform to the physical requirements prescribed such as density, compressive strength, tensile splitting strength, water absorption and air loss during pumping. The foaming agent being tested shall be used in making test specimens required.1.1 This specification covers foaming agents specifically formulated for making preformed foam for use in the production of cellular concrete.1.2 The function of this specification is to provide the means for evaluating the performance of a specific foaming agent. This is accomplished by using the foaming agent in making a standard cellular concrete test batch (see Test Method C796) from which test specimens are cast. Then, significant properties of the concrete are determined by tests and compared with the requirements of Section 3.1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. 5.1 Preformed tape sealants are tacky, deformable solids that are used under compression between two substrates in various sealing applications. These tapes are usually supplied in roll form with a release paper interlayer. When the roll is unwound and the release paper is removed from the preformed tape sealant, there should be no transfer of the preformed tape sealant to the release paper, nor any residue left on the paper. These methods will give a qualitative indication of whether or not the release paper can be removed cleanly from a preformed tape sealant after a controlled exposure period.5.2 Alternative procedures are listed because some preformed tape sealants are normally used under field conditions where elevated temperatures can be encountered, while other preformed tape sealants are normally used under more controlled environments in “assembly line” operations.1.1 These test methods cover laboratory procedures for evaluating the release characteristics of a release paper intended to be supplied in direct contact with a preformed tape sealant.1.2 The values stated in metric (SI) units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are provided for information purposes only.1.3 The subcommittee with jurisdiction is not aware of any similar ISO standard.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. 3.1 The compression resistance perpendicular to the faces, the resistance to the extrusion during compression, and the ability to recover after release of the load are indicative of a joint filler's ability to continuously fill a concrete expansion joint and thereby prevent damage that might otherwise occur during thermal expansion. The asphalt content is a measure of the fiber-type joint filler's durability and life expectancy. In the case of cork-type fillers, the resistance to water absorption and resistance to boiling hydrochloric acid are relative measures of durability and life expectancy.NOTE 2: The quality of the results produced by this standard are dependent on the competence of the personnel performing the procedure and the capability, calibration, and maintenance of the equipment used. Agencies that meet the criteria of Specification D3666 are generally considered capable of competent and objective testing, sampling, inspection, etc. Users of this standard are cautioned that compliance with Specification D3666 alone does not completely ensure reliable results. Reliable results depend on many factors; following the suggestions of Specification D3666 or some similar acceptable guideline provides a means of evaluating and controlling some of those factors.1.1 These test methods cover the physical properties associated with preformed expansion joint fillers. 5.1 Density measurements of preformed pipe insulation are useful in determining compliance of a product with specification limits and in providing a relative gage of product weights. For any one kind of insulation some important physical and mechanical properties, such as thermal conductivity, heat capacity, strength, etc., bear a specific relationship with its density; however, on a density basis, these properties are not directly comparable with those for other kinds of material.5.2 The physical dimensions of preformed pipe insulation are important quantities not only for determining the density of the pipe insulation but also for determining the conformance to specifications. The use of multilayer insulations is common, and the dimensions are necessary to ensure proper nesting of the layers.1.1 This test method covers the determination of the dimensions and density, after conditioning, of preformed pipe insulation.1.1.1 Procedure A is applicable to sections of one-piece pipe covering or to sections of segmental pipe covering that can be joined together concentrically and measured as one-piece.1.1.2 Procedure B is applicable to segmental pipe covering where each section of material is measured.1.1.3 Procedure C is applicable to sections of one-piece pipe covering, such as soft foam or mineral wool materials, where it is possible to penetrate the material.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use.
